Vol. 2 Iss. 12 - Canadian Slime Time
General Summary
Downtime and Preparations in New York
Following the body-swap ordeal, Metro Force spent several days catching their breath and settling personal matters:
- Malcolm (Warden)
- Deepened his communion with the First Tree. He observed that the Unplanted Forest had taken on a golden hue since Atum’s infiltration, and the Tree seemed uneasy about Atum’s access.
- Affirmed the plan to plant a World Tree in Last Creek, a small Canadian town near Ottawa. The First Tree expressed relief that Malcolm would move forward with his vision of harmony between humanity and nature.
- Achilles touched base with Malcolm, supporting the new plan and making arrangements for the journey.
- Danny (Agogo)
- Resumed capoeira training under his coach, Tomasso.
- Assisted Trent (Zeus) in hunting for components needed for Ella’s ongoing projects.
- Val (Valiant)
- Trained with her new KYLE Pegasus, transferring necessary permissions from Malcolm (including an overdue apology to KYLE for past tensions). KYLE accepted her contrition, noting that he appreciated her sincerity whether or not his emotions were “real.”
- Ella (Cinder)
- Focused on constructing a teleportation pad to enable quick travel once the World Tree was planted.
- Trent (Zeus)
- Spent time livestreaming, keeping up his social presence.
- Teamed with Danny to track down more supplies for Ella.
- Learned of Danny’s family dilemma: Danny’s father suffers from the same degenerative disease Danny once had. Though Danny’s illness was offset by Ernie Patel’s cybernetics, his father lacks such resources. Trent offered sympathy and pledged the team’s help.
Road Trip to Last Creek
After several days of preparation, Malcolm, Val, and Ella packed into Malcolm’s truck and embarked on a road trip to Canada:
- Val practiced driving stick shift, with occasional comedic results.
- Upon arriving at Malcolm’s old family farm in Last Creek, Ella completed her teleportation pad, enabling Danny, Achilles, and Trent to join them.
That evening, Danny ventured into town to restock supplies at a convenience store—only to discover the streets teeming with slime creatures, spawns of a Nupepo.
The Slime Siege
Alerting the team, Danny held off several slime monsters, realizing physical blows caused acidic splatter. As the rest of Metro Force mobilized to the scene:
- Base Chemistry: Trent identified the need for a base substance to neutralize the acidic slime, and Ella found an ample supply of basic chemicals at the local Dollar General.
- Tracking the Source: Zeus located the mother Nupepo in the forest—a colossal, 100-foot slime—and guided the others there.
- Rescue Efforts: Danny and Val raced through town rescuing civilians. Property damage was significant, particularly to the local diner (coincidentally, the same spot Malcolm had seen in the Unplanted Forest during his vision with Atum).
- Malcolm’s Spike Attack: Malcolm impaled the giant slime with a tree spike, momentarily halting it.
- Achilles and the Living Scarecrow: Achilles was engulfed by the slime, yet somehow survived. In the process, Malcolm pulled a mysterious scarecrow-like figure with a sickle from the slime—who seemed strangely grateful before fleeing.
- Final Neutralization: With Ella’s instructions, Malcolm sprouted a special broccoli-laden tree spike to quell the acid. Ella combined the basic chemicals, then propelled herself into the giant Nupepo, destroying it from within. The ooze collapsed, saving Last Creek from further devastation.
Planting the World Tree
The townspeople expressed relief and gratitude. Though damage to buildings was extensive, no casualties were reported, and the monstrous slime menace was vanquished.
- That Night: Metro Force regrouped at the farm, reflecting on the bizarre presence of the scarecrow entity and the resilience Achilles displayed.
- Next Morning: Malcolm quietly planted the World Tree’s sprout, marking the beginning of a potentially monumental shift in the balance of magic—and the start of Earth Zero’s newest link to the realms of gods and nature.
