Avandra

The elven city of Avandra was the third city founded after The Cataclysm. It is also the first city to be dedicated to one god and the only flying city.

While the city was founded in 2190, construction began five years earlier. The priests and druids of Silvanus, god of nature wanted a home that did not disrupt the natural world. After much deliberation the decision was made to build the city in the sky.

With direct help from Silvanus the elven druids crafted permanent levitation enchantments that were placed on each individual building material. The materials were also conjured rather than harvested from the world.

Four long years of spell work and old fashioned construction later the city was mostly complete. A massive city of impossible architecture and vibrant plants, Avandra resembled a massive garden. The stone work was shaped to appear natural while the plants were grown around everything. Animals of all kinds were brought in to live in the city along side it's inhabitants. The city was it's own living ecosystem. Even a magical barrier had been constructed to protect the city from the outside weather while controlling the weather inside.

It was then that a problem was discovered. For while the city could float, it could not move. An oversight in the enchantment process. Once the materials were put in place they could not be moved without dispelling the enchantment.

Hephaestus, god of crafting came to their aid. He had been observing the construction process with great interest, and had spotted the problem immediately. As a gift to the city in honor of their great feats of construction, he made a crystal that could control the magics of the city. It took almost a year for the mortals of the city to install it properly in the center of the city, but once it was all of the citywide enchantments could be controlled from the crystal. Because of this Hephaestus is the only god other that Silvanus to have a shrine in the city.

And thus five years after construction began the city of Avandra was complete.

For over 2,500 years traveled around the world helping keep the balance between nature and civilization. It was destroyed in the year 4748 by the Son of Tiamat. Avandra was on the continent of Abbas trying to heal the land that had been ravaged by the magics of that war.
