Kingdom of Burgundia

Structure

Burgundia‘s head of state is its ruling King. The country is a constitutional monarchy. Its monarch system, while in the country’s early history functioned as an absolute monarch with a Parliament with little power in government, has transitioned to a more limited role following a shift in the balance of power. The Parliament staged a coup after the civil war of 1768, instituting a Constitutional Monarchy and bestowing more power to a prime minister. Unlike other Constitutional Monarchies such as Ostedia, the ruling family, The Jefferson clan, still maintain the position as head of state, and some executive authority.

History

The Burgundian ethnicity are of ethnic whites of southern provinces in the Altari peninsula. Prior to Burgundian existence, the eastern coasts were occupied by the kingdom of Ianovo. The various states of Ianovo were established in the 100's, settled by native Cadel populations, most of which were cultured in the ways of Valeristiam, a popular moral and political philosophy. Ianovo, led by a strong imperial system that consolidated economic and technological power, groups the surrounding states under technological dominance and cultural approval. Due to the spread of disease, and costly wars with its fractured neighboring state, The Caedelan empire, Ianovo's military power, economic superiority, and grip over the provinces it controlled began to wane in the 1400's. The Burgundians, having originated from the Northern Altari peninsula, continuously sparred with Ianovo. The Burgundian tribes defeated the weak and disorganized Ianovians, and the new population assumed the capital of Ianovo and declare it their new capital.   Various states were divided into the land, and the ruler, Nicholas Jefferson in 1437. Immediate change in Burgundian power was slow to start, The massive resources and large size of the empire created a slow and decentralized power structure. However, the clashing cultures of Burgundia led to an extreme case of cultural blending. Burgen, the language in place, was adopted with Latin, which had been spoken by Burgundia. Christianity, introduced through trade in the Adriet Ocean, was slow to adapt to Oparva. Unlike other feudal systems in Peraquiem at the time, Burgundia adopted the Ianovan state workforce system and bureaucracy. This allowed for rapid expansion of the standing army and territorial annexation. Burgundia engaged in a mass deportation of the Cadel populations living along the east coast into central Oparva, due to religious differences in the early 1500's. Burgundia used its naval powers to rapidly colonize sparsely populated land along the eastern Oparvan coasts. Well funded Infrastructure and valuable resource extraction industries led to a mass migration of burgundians to settle the Cawesus region. This land, suitable for farming, saw a huge growth in population over the late 1500's.   Burgundia continued to annex land well into the 1700's. Its well-trained, large military secured the entire Cawesus province by the mid 1600's. Burgundia came into conflict with The Ostedian Empire, its colony in the Neorin regions. The first Ostedian-Burgundia War saw Burgundia seize the Neorin regions from Ostedia. During this time, Burgundia, having expanded its shipping reaches, grew in closer contact with Peraquiem. The first war saw Burgundia seizing the Neorin regions, but Ostedia reclaimed it and Burgundia lost Devmochar in the Second. After the collapse of Ostedia, Burgundia reclaimed much of the Oparvan continent. Burgundia sent a governor to represent the provinces, and was the sole authority. However, disgruntled native ethnic populations, envious of the Parliamentary system in the homeland revolted, and Burgundia lost much of its land to new countries, its military stretched too thin.   Burgundia lost even more land against the GSE in the 1800's. The succession of Antharia, a prominent state in Burgundia, led the king to briefly abdicate. However, massive, sweeping democratic reforms allowed Burgundia to keep its remaining territories. Displaced Burgundians from the country's former holdings inspired mass migration, rapidly increasing the Christian and white populations of Burgundia. Despite their maintaining of sea trade and resource production, its capacity and level of technology was soon surpassed by Peraquiem and the growing GSE. The GSE's economic competition led to diplomatic tensions. A culture of centered, national Burgundian attitudes grew in the country. The GSE invaded their holdings in the St. leonidas Archipelago in 1888. after losing, Burgundia formed a military alliance with Reshubia, and greatly increased the country's armed forces, due to the swell of public nationalism. The GSE invaded Burgundia in 1933. Burgundia managed to fend off the invading force, which gave Burgundia more diplomatic power.

Crestentin became the most practiced religion.
