Lycan

Wer lycanus

Wer lycanus (Lycan) is a strange canid relative found in the forests of Titanios. Lycans are a part of a clade of canids adapted for an arboreal lifestyle, most are small hunters of birds, small rodents and baby dinosaurs, and also vary greatly in body design, with more basil members resembling Hesperocyon, however more derived species superficially resemble primates. The long limbs and fingers allow for a greater range of mobility. Lycans are the largest and most terrestrial of this clade, standing nearly 2 meters tall and hulking in stature, Lycans have convergently evolved a lifestyle more akin to their distant wolf relatives. Pack hunting to bring down the large megafauna and fend off the saurian apex predators of Titanios.

Lycans resemble mythical werewolves and individuals somehow managing to travel to the surface may be responsible for the myths in the first place. Fur colour varies similar to wolves, with black, white, gray being common, however rare reds, oranges and browns have been reported as well. Lycans are capable of walking upright on their digitigrade hind legs, this allows their hands to be free for use during combat and gives them a height advantage they otherwise wouldn't be able to reach which allows them to see over forest undergrowth or tall grasses. Although capable of running on their hind legs, lycans prefer to gallop on all fours when running is required.

Packs range between 4-8 adults and their pups. Dens are usually found at the center of their territory, however satellite dens are dotted around their territory and used depending on the season and local prey options. Lycans hunt using a combination of ambush and short pursuit hunting, prey is restrained with by a few pack members their large powerful forelimbs while the rest bite and slash vital areas until the captured animal bleeds out or dies of shock.
