Keahi Spire

Once the south western tower of an ancient palace that was toppled into the sea, the Keahi spire rises 530 feet into the air, and seems to have been one of the shorter spires that were a part of the palace. While not the tallest building in the world, it was in the four hundred years between the fall of the palace and the construction of the first real skyscraper in Lunja, Jokana. It is made of white stone with intricate carvings depicting sea life and a story of an unknown hero across it's surface and a conical blue tiled roof. There are remnants of the walls the connected the tower to the place, primarily around area where the 'front door' is located as it lead into the palace proper. A wooden staircase connected to a dock has been constructed from the door as the only entrance became a fifty foot plumet into the ocean after the palace fell.

Purpose / Function

It was built as a part of a grand palace build by an ancient king with far too much money. A tower was constructed in each cardinal and secondary direction centered around the main building. The cardinal towers were much taller than the secondary towers, but those fell into the sea along with the main palace. The palace had unfortunately been build on a loose plate of land that sat on the actual Keahi island and several rock formations. It seemed stable and no one knew the island was structured this way, but when a massive earthquake hit the plate crumbled and dumped the, at the time, pinnacle of human achievement into the depths, and only the south-eastern spire remained due to sheer luck.

Alterations

Several alterations have been made to the building over the years. The building has survived beautifully and needs little restoration of any kind aside from the slight degradation of several of the carvings due to constant exposure to the elements. The first alteration was the instillation of electrical wires, plumbing and an ac unit as well as a satellite dish. This was done illegally, but with the fall of the Keahi people when the island fell, no one stepped up to preserve the tower, though it remains in remarkably good condition as a testament to ancient craftsmanship. Most of the windows were also replaced and new doors were installed along with the construction of a small dock.

Architecture

The basic architectural shape of the spire is quite simple externally. A white cylindrical european styled tower with a cone shaped roof often seen in fairy tales. The relief carvings that cover the surface however resemble an almost traditional maori style with elements from other pacific art. The interior is lit by hundreds of small windows that spiral up the tower and are incorporated into the exterior art. Thousands of steps are carved out of the stone and follow the edge of the tower to the roof. A small blue pool sits at the center of the interior and acts as an elevator through some sort of magic or old technology.

History

The tower was once a part of a large palace built by a wealthy king who was long gone by the time of completion. The palace then served as a center of an empire for a few hundred years before an earthquake tossed the majority of it into the sea. The empire fell apart but the tower remained standing. No one went up to check it out though so it remained abandoned, accumulating dust and warding ships away with tales of hauntings.
