Satyr

Satyrs, or goat-men, are nature spirits who have goat-like traits-- notably, legs, horns and eyes.   It was originally believed that satyrs were a male-only species, and that nymphs were their female counterparts. This was a fair assumption, as most nymphs seemed to be married to satyrs. However, it turned out that sexual dimorphism in both nymphs and satyrs is very subtle.

Basic Information

Biological Traits

A satyr's appearance varies depending on their habitat; they will usually share some traits with the goats native to their home. A satyr from India, for instance, may share the long ears and shorter horns of a local jamnapari goat, and a satyr from Sudan will have the long, curved horns of an ibex. Regardless of gender, satyrs always have some facial hair and a thick, muscular neck to support the extra weight of their horns.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

While originally from Greece, satyrs can be found anywhere. They will often have traits of the local goat species.
Lifespan
Although they are nature spirits, they have a lifespan that is only slightly longer than a human’s, going up to 175 years.
