Siberian Revolution

The Siberian Revolution (Russian: Сибирская революция), 2026-2031, also called the Siberian War of Independence) was fought between the Moscow-based Russian Federation, and the Novosibirsk-based Siberian Independent Republic. The war resulted in a complete Siberian victory, and the movement of Russia to far-right revanchist politics.

Following the bungled invasion of Ukraine, the detonation of a nuclear device in Kharkiv, the subsequent destruction of Russian naval and air forces by NATO, public opinion turned against President Vladimir Putin. A failed coup d'état by the Russian left President Putin hospitalized. Without a clear successor, various factions within the Russian government fought each other for control - sometimes literally.

As violent clashes around Moscow became commonplace, leaders in Siberia contemplated independence to avoid becoming entangled in further strife. When FSB agents executed several leading officials in Omsk for "treasonous activity" in 2026, many oblasts and republics declared independence from Moscow. Although Siberian forces were outnumbered by the Moscow government, they quickly received aid from both the United States and China. Both nations believed having an independent Siberian within their sphere would greatly benefit them in the Second Cold War.

Fundamentally, the result of the Siberian Revolution was not decided on the battlefield. The ability of the Siberian Independent Republic to emerge victorious came through its ability to play foreign supporters off of one another, allowing it to retain its independence while gaining significant foreign support.
