Dwarven Mansions in Wosterhiem

A proud and stout race are the Dwarves, though they are a slow to build up in numbers as the male to female ratio at birth is 3 males to every female. One might expect such a society to be run by men, however the mountain folk have been very egalitarian from the beginning, pouring more effort and more praise into their manifested skills of craftsmanship. As such, the Lords of the Kherakim are not mighty warriors, nor silver tongued statesmen, but paragons of the craft.
That’s not to say that there is no value in warriors in Dwarven culture, but it too is treated like a craft. Dwarven tactics often lean upon the sturdiness of its people and their constructs. In a common Dwarven mind, the idea of running forward into battle is a foolish concept. Better to stand and study an army of charging enemies and be ready when they at last reach you. A dwarf will rarely charge into the fray, but they will never run from it either. Endurance is the highest virtue in Dwarven culture.
This is exemplified in their construction. Angular and sturdy. Curvature and arches are respectable, but not pleasing to a dwarf’s eye. Often high elves site this as an example of the failings of dwarven society, but are often silenced by a simple retort: dwarves don’t require magic to keep their wonders aloft.
But even as unyielding and robust as the dwarves may be, erosion is taking place in their society. The old worship of ancestors is fading, the tales of the works of their fathers losing traction. A human faith, the Chapel of Light has proved itself to them during the dark age, and no dwarf will question results.
