Deepening Creek Village
Deepening Creek Village is the official name for the Hobgoblin settlement a day's journey west of Sweetwater, although they seldom refer to it by that name or any other. It's location has been guarded aggressively in an effort to safeguard the secrets of its inhabitants.
The community is located in grotto well, where the waters have carved the stone into a series of spires and arches in the narrow canyon. The Children of the Sky have built into the walls and pillars in a network of huts, with Goblins living in the lower areas and Hobgoblins residing in the upper structures. The few bugbears present reside on the outskirts.
While the community is ruled by a chieftain, he is advised by it's elders, who commune directly below his hut. They manage the ascension of untested youths and ensure that the community is built around the tenants of patience, tenacity and bravery. It is they who award the three hides of ascension: marten, snake and badger. They also oversee the sacrifice of an albino direwolf should an ascendent rise to apex.
A secondary ascension ladder is available to less militant members of the community, although it requires observed behavior and vouching on behalf of mentors already among the elders.
The community itself guards the entrance to an old Gnomish facility, long sealed. The Children of the Sky guard this jealously, ensuring that no outsider breach this last bastion of the old Gnomish culture.
