The Green are sentient humanoids composed nearly entirely of vegetation, being more plant than animal.

Anatomy

Due to have a decentralized nervous system, people who are members of the Green can modify their appearance to a certain extent.

Genetics and Reproduction

The Green, like many plants, undergo an alternation of generations (also known as metagenesis). This means that one member of the Green may be a gametophyte, producing gametes which fuse with the gametes of another member of the Green to become a zygote. This zygote develops in a member of the Green called a sporophyte that produces spores. These spores germinate and develop into new members of the Green that are gametophytes.
Members of the Green who are gametophytes can occasionally interbreed with other humanoids under very specific circumstances. However, these offspring, known as Demi-Green, cannot themselves breed with members of the Green or other humanoids, and they will eventually suffer from a condition known as "treeman syndrome" or the "curse of the Green." Such persons start as partially vegetation and partially animal, but the vegetation slowly consumes the animal portions, slowly turning individuals into immobile plants.

Major Organizations

The Green are led by the Parliament of the Trees. Members of the Parliament are former members of the Green who have willing given up on their mobile forms, fusing with trees in a manner akin to lichen.
Members of the Green communicate with the Parliament by attaching their roots to any roots themselves in contact with any members of the Parliament. Current and former members of the Parliament include Yggdrasil (the Tree of the World), Akshayavat (the Tree of the Heavens), Kiidk'yaas (the Tree of Change), Mugumo (the Treet of the Way), Llekera (the Tree of Life), and Zaqqum (the Tree of Knowledge). Of these members, Kiidk'yaas is the only former Demi-Green, having been half-human. Additionally, Zaqqum betrayed the Parliament centuries ago, becoming a demon in the process. They now reside in Hell, and have become known by the moniker "The Tree That Springs out of the Bottom of Hell". It is said that those in some portions of Hell are punished to eat the fruits of Zaqqum, which in turn their bodies apart on a cellular level, before reforming and beginning the process again.
