balayang

Balayang, also known as bat people, are humanoids with the heads and wings of fruit bats and otherwise humanoid bodies. They tend to live in treehouse villages deep within jungles, although there are many exceptions to this. Balayang are mostly nocturnal and sleep in an upside-down hanging position from tree branches.
Due to a series of conflicts over centuries, balayang and karasu tend to be hostile toward one another, though younger individuals from both species have begun to aschew these attitudes. Older balayang claim that the karasu king Bunjil initiated the wars, and that once the Federation of Featherfolk was founded, that they were forced into the jungles as a result of territorial expansion.
Most balayang are vegetarian and worship the god Antares, who was said to have gifted them the power of flight millennia ago.
