Manaflies

Manafly is the catch-all term used for the entire family of Manaflies, which usually aren't worth distinguishing. Widely spread in various species, Manaflies would likely be considered pests if not for their inherent use to all creatures and their beauty.   Manaflies are unique in that they are naturally occuring beings composed entirely of magic. While there are quite a few magical skills that can summon similarly completely magical beings, Manaflies are one of very few naturally occuring ones, and by far the most plentiful.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Manaflies are glowing, almost transluscent beings that range from hand-sized to over a meter in wingspan. They generally have a center "core" and free-floating wings that surround the core, in essentially any number. They have no complex features, being generally rounded and devoid of features such as eyes, mouths or legs, though some species have antenna-like feelers. Some have long, trailing wings and float gracefully, while others dart around quickly, but all live the entirety of their life in the air.

Genetics and Reproduction

Manaflies form fairly randomly in areas with high concentrations of Magica Particles. Their attributes often depend on the surrounding environment of aspects of the Magica itself.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Manaflies only consume latent Mana present in the environment, and are usually consumed very quickly, within a few days.

Behaviour

Manaflies have no intellect to speak of, instead flocking blindly to sources of expended Mana. Because of this, they are usually consumed very quickly, often by humanoids or other creatures that use large amounts of Mana, such as cats, raccoons, or small wyverns. When they are consumed, they typically restore a large amount of Mana, but provide little other nutrients in itself, though Mana can provide sustenence. Manaflies are also often kept by humanoids, either as pets, test subjects or future ingredients.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Manaflies see through Mana, and can "hear" through vibrations in the air. None of their senses are particularly excellent, and they are infamous for flocking towards sources of larges amounts of Mana, such as Sky-Drivers or mages.
Conservation Status
Plentiful. Manaflies are in no danger, and only grow more common as Magic-mechanic use grows.
