Harness Beasts

Harness beasts are a native Aeravan predator, shaped similarly to a manta ray with four spindly legs. The Harness beast is most well known for it's method of hunting, from which it derives it's namesake. Harness beasts eat fibrous plants before hunting, which are digested in a special organ. This organ than produces strands, much like a spider's silk. When the Harness Beast finds it's prey, usually large flying fauna such as Cloudwhales or Horned Gliders, it will sharply dive, landing on the creatures back or head. From here, there may be a fight, but often the creatures pay the Harness Beast no mind, and the Harness beast lays its trap. Harness beasts are fairly intelligent beasts, and can differentiate their prey to fine details. Because of this, when the Harness beast lifts off of the prey, the strands tighten around it, and the Harness beast controls its movement, like a living puppet. Often, Harness Beasts simply drive the prey into a nearby Sky Isles, but they have been known to bring them back to their young.
