Elfyn / Elves

The most magically-inclined and long-lived of the mortal species, the Elfyn descended from Fae in ancient times, in days long before the Eternal Slumber. However, the exact nature of the genetic relationship between the two species is too shrouded in myth and mystery to be clearly defined, leaving only the obvious physical and magical similarities between the two as evidence of their connection.

Elves were once almost as close to the Earth as their Fae ancestors, but over thousands of years have become more similar to the Humans with which they have always closely associated. As this change occured, most of the rare bloodlines of Elfyn died out, leaving behind those most genetically compatible with Mankind. As such, half-Human, half-Elfyn mortals are common. Humans, Elves, and Halfyn (a slang term for the offspring of the two species) usually share the same settlements peacefully, and are regarded as equals in most social structures. However, some Freemen are inherently suspicious of Elfyn and exclude them from their revolutionary efforts out of a fear that the Elves may harbor sympathies for their Fae overlords.
