What once was filled with verdant lush vegetation and teaming with wildlife is now a barren wasteland. After the advent of the Last War what wasn’t destroyed by the initial impact of the bombs was exterminated with the high levels of radiation. The Wasteland has been barren for close to 1000 years. People once lived stretched out across the Wasteland, otherwise known as The Green back then. Small cities once populated the plateaus with some larger cities sprawled out across the Green. Orderly houses, millions of people spread out across the plateau. The Magtar used 300 square miles of that unused land for their shielded walls.
There have been no expeditions out into the region to confirm that it is in fact devoid of life. For a very long time it had not been safe to investigate due to the extremely high radiation levels. The Upoben maintains that Wastelands are in fact still untraversable due to radiation. There have been rumors recently that new Green was spotted in the Wasteland. While no one has been able to confirm the footage taken by the Upoben courier drone, the rumor persists. Scientists once speculated that if any living thing remains in the wasteland, they remain undisturbed and almost certainly mutated. The Wasteland will remain unclaimed and as far as we know uninhabited until new instruments are able to take readings of the radiation levels. Any new Green in the Wasteland would mean the end of the need for the Magtar, a direct threat to the control of the Upoben. It is in their best interest to continue to tell people that the Wastelands are exactly that. Waste.
