Magėžlys (I.P.A.: [mageːʒlɪːs])
Magėžlys was the original Magtar, or shield city. A shielded city built to withstand blast and fallout, it has grown over the centuries to be a massive mega city
Demographics
When the Magtar was created the population contained many different ethnicities, various economic classes, and a wide variety of professions. All were refugees. Over time a blending and erasure of some has occurred.
Government
Magėžlys is run officially by the First Order of the White and The Prevailing colors, but collectively they are known as the “Up Above” or the Upoben. They have been the ruling class for close to 500 years. As time has gone on what once was a Democratic Republic, and a technocracy turned into a theocracy, as the First Order of the White is a religious organization.
Infrastructure
What once was a gorgeous well planned out city has over the thousand years become labyrinth upon labrynth of stone and metal. The city literally built upon itself as it could not outgrow its walled boundaries. Up was the only way to go. Most needs are met in or close to the borough that one lives in, so there is little in the way of public transportation. All nutrition and hydration is taken care of by rationed synthetic supplements. The city wide waste system was designed to recycle and reclaim as much nutrients as possible as there was little room to produce more.
Districts
Other than the Upoben and the Downunten, the Downunten is divided into boroughs, which are in turn divided into warrens. There are 6 boroughs total, and roughly 7 warrens per borough. Each borough and warren have their own appointed bureaucratic leaders.
History
Magėžlys is a thousand years old. Created by Glorianna Whitt, a scientist to serve as a refugee camp and settlement against the rising increase of nuclear destruction occurring to the planet caused by warring nations. This Magtar was designed originally to be a haven, for all people, all professions. It was a place of science. Over the years the city saw not only great growth in population and structure, but also great destruction as warring factions within the system caused the original democratic structure to crumble, only to be replaced by the Cults of the Upoben, specifically the First Order of the White, who after a thousand years had twisted the memory of Glorianna Hwitt to be a caricature deity of the brilliant scientist she was.
Population
With almost nine million people in the “Down Below” or Downunten alone, the Magtar boasts the largest population growth since it’s creation one thousand years ago.
Inhabitant Demonym
With almost no contact with the outside world there was never a need for a word to be known by. There are however a few demonyms used to identify which warren or borough a person is from.
