Ellesmere: The Ruined Kingdom

Home of the Dead

People don’t traditionally live in “Ruined Ellesmere”- at least most civilized ones. These sunken, swampy ruins of the former kingdom and magocracy are deeply haunted and magically erratic, on top of being full of dangerous monstrosities warped by the dark and chaotic energies the area is suffused in. This is a result of the unhindered mages who caused The Event. The area has been partially taken over by Lizardfolk who formed what they call the Kingdom of Anukh to the north. Gnolls and Kobolds are also commonly found here. There are rumors of a black dragon of unknown size and age inhabiting these swamps somewhere which they may worship or serve. The swamps are occasionally frequented by criminal elements passing through and the occasional hermit, hag, or social outlier who slowly goes mad from a long duration here. Occasionally, near the borders of Belstrad, one can find members of the Sisters of Mercy who specialize in exterminating the undead threats of Ellesmere and keeping them at bay.
