North Keep

Located west of Crossing, North Keep was once the manor of a small but powerful fiefdom and home to the wealthy Mantilla family. It is, or was in its prime, a powerful fortress surrounded by tall, buttressed walls and a deep, fast-moving moat. At one point in the past hundred years, the reigning Lord Mantilla went mad and ruined the family fortunes through gambling, outfitting ill-fated military campaigns, and general misadventure. The family lost its wealth, its lands, and its prestige in short order and both the Mantillas and North Keep passed into obscurity. North Keep stood abandoned for decades save for a short occupation by the Red Dragonarmy during the War of the Lance. Recent signs of life at North Keep suggest that someone is living there again, but no one in the surrounding area knows who it might be.

The Mantilla family did a lot of business with Thorbardin before the Cataclysm, and much of North Keep was designed and built by dwarven labor. The Mantillas were apparently scrupulous record keepers and fastidious with their business dealings until the incident, so there might be information relavent to your mission at North Keep. —BT
