Tashi

Before the unification of the Provinces of Tamynia, the Tashi were the dominant culture in the West. Their hold on most mining resources and thermal sources, deep in the mountains, afforded them significant social and economic power over their neighboring countries. This made for a proud, sometimes chauvinistic culture. However, when the West as they knew it fell, and they had no other choice but to unite with the other countries under one banner, their collective ego was wounded. Ever since, Tashi culture has been receding: the cultural and economic shift towards progress and technology has given more importance to the Esu people of southern Tamynia. As such, the economic prosperity of the Tashi has long been swindled, and their culture and needs ignored by the central government. Not unlike a forgotten sibling Tashi has grown sour over this rivalry, and the people still daydream of a time where they were once the cultural hegemony of the West, and where their traditions, dialect and names were respected as they should.

Culture

Common Dress code

Tashi people wear multiple tunics layered one over the other. Winter tunics are often lined with fur, especially high up in the mountains where temperature drops during those months, whereas summer tunics are lighter and silk-like, often worn by themselves to avoid the heat. They wear sets of brooches and rings as a way of indicating status or belonging to certain organizations. Formal wear is usually a silken or very thin shawl draped over the head and tied by pins.

Art & Architecture

The buildings found in northern Tamynia are a reminder of the country's important relationship with rock and mining. Large stone buildings, nevertheless beautifully decorated and polished, are a stable of Tashi settlements.
It is also common to see thermal sources included within the architecture of cities: either as baths or as sources of power.

Foods & Cuisine

Tashi cuisine is defined by their way of life as mariners and the agriculture of the fertile and warm lands around the bay. Considering the lack of animal husbandry in the bay, livestock and poultry is rare and somewhat of a delicacy, although geese can be found in the countryside. Its staples are fish and seafood, barley, olive, elderberry, and sweet potato. Tashis use fermented bean paste as well as a blend of dried algae, anise, and salt as seasoning. Other spices are generally only accessible to wealthier individuals.
