Grianstad

Beacon of the North

Lodged between the mountain range a serene river is a town of moderate size, with its moss covered log houses, polished stone dancehalls, open air markets, and hospitable inns. Grianstad is the unofficial capital of northern Menestia, and its denizens are as vigorous and they are warmhearted. Even far from the town, the music of fiddles and drunken chorists reach your ears. Here, dancehalls, inns, arenas, and contests abound. Entertainment is central to the life in Grianstad: if those who live here work hard, it is only to party harder when the sun reaches the hills.

Government

The local government is ruled over by Mairead Vertucci, a politician of both Relki and Mekiesh descent. Like most Menestian towns, Grianstad benefits from substantial autonomy. Republican laws are respected, but local legislation is lenient and taxation is low.

Points of interest

Taverns
Grianstad is renown for its numerous but unique taverns, of which it boasts around 40. Each of them tries to differentiate itself from the others through a house feature: quizzes, contests, magic-infused drinks, smoking herbs imported from across the continent, wrestling matches, renowned storytellers, cockfighting, private cubicles, invisible servers, beautiful escorts, special card games, even a river flowing through the establishment. Everything is fairplay to attract customers.
  Dance
Dance is a beloved form of entertainment in Grianstad. Multiple dancehalls offer different music styles or specifications (randomly-matched partners, line dancing, smaller-folks dancing, etc) and showhalls often host travelling as well as local bands and orchestras. Even out of these establishment, music is omnipresent in this town, whether it is a musician busking near the docks or one of those enchanted music boxes spewing its melody along the cobblestone streets.
  Sports
With a population composed in large part of miners and smiths, it is only reasonable that physical prowess be part of Grianstad's entertainment circuit. Every once a while, the town gets ready for a competition of sorts: running, swimming, and wrestling are common and well-liked by the public (but not nearly as much as drunken running, drunken swimming, or drunken wrestling of course). The most popular competition, however, is named "" and consists of a log balanced on a piece of wood at the end of a dock. Participants have to run along the log to try and catch the piece of cloth at the end before they fall in the water. It is usually not played in winter.
