Crafting and Salvaging Items

Crafting Items and Requirements

Crafting items in Dustriders only has two requirements for you to be able to make something: That you have a schematic for the item you wish to craft, and the materials and components necessary to meet the listed requirements.   Mundane rarity items and ammunition do not require schematics to craft, only the materials and components listed.   As a general rule of thumb, and without help or tools, with the assumption of 8 hours of work per day:
  • Ammunition, Medicine, and other consumable equipment types only take a Short Rest to assemble.
  • Most portable equipment types, such as armor mods take up to 4 days to assemble.
  • Armor takes up to 8 days to assemble.
  • Longarms take up to 8 days to assemble.
  • Sidearms take up to 4 days to assemble.
  • Launchers take up to 16 days to assemble.
  • Small vehicles and powered exoskeletons take up to a month to assemble.
  • Medium vehicles take up to three months to assemble.
  • Large vehicles can take up to six months to assemble.
  • Landships can take up to a full year to assemble.
  •     The process of crafting can be sped up with assistance. Firearms typically can only have two people working on them at a time, but it halves the time to craft. Bike-style vehicles can have up to two people working on them at a time. Medium and larger vehicles can have as many people working on them as the vehicle's maximum occupancy, allowing for the work to be divided in half for each helping hand (or claw). This can be up to the DM's discretion, depending on the item or vehicle.   Certain features provided by classes or tools can also further reduce the time needed to craft. If everyone working on assembly of the item or vehicle has tools, the assembly time is reduced for each individual that is using the tools, per the listed tools' uses.

    Crafting Quality

Independent from the rarity is the crafting quality of an item. Engineers can craft items at higher quality than baseline, but higher quality items can also be found in the game world. The crafting quality levels are as follows.   Quality
  • Baseline: No enhancements or improvements over the normal item
  • Improved: The equivalent of a +1 version of an item.
  • Advanced: The equivalent of a +2 version of an item.
  • Masterwork: The equivalent of a +3 version of an item.
  •

    Disassembly and Reassembly

Disassembling items typically follows the same rules as salvaging.   Reassembly, instead of crafting from scratch takes the same amount of time it took to disassemble.   Disassembly time depends on the size of the equipment, item, or vehicle. All standard ammunition can be crafted for the listed materials cost without a schematic. For a weapon or personal item, the amount of time to disassemble that object is a number of hours multiplied by the rarity. As an example, a Common rarity Armanov D-74 will take 1 hour to disassemble, but a Very Rare MP-01 SMG will take 4 hours. This is due to the added complexity of the weapon or item. Engineers can analyze the item as they disassemble it per their schematics analysis feature, but will take longer to create a schematic. Legendary items and Artifacts cannot be disassembled. For a vehicle, the salvage times equal the disassembly time.

    Salvaging Items and Vehicles

There are three states of viable salvage for each item or vehicle part which determine how many components and materials can be obtained through scrapping or salvaging (these terms are interchangeable). The type of the item or vehicle being broken down also comes into play. The GM can roll or arbitrate the status of the different parts on the item or vehicle being salvaged.
Good: The item or part can be salvaged for the full materials, with 75% or more remaining HP for the scrap for it to be considered in Good Condition
Moderate: The item or part can be salvaged for half the materials from its crafting requirements listed on the item's or vehicle's page, with between 25-75% remaining HP for the item or part it to be considered in Moderate Condition
Poor: The part might be able to be salvaged for a quarter of the materials from its crafting requirements listed on the item's or vehicle's page, with less than 25% remaining HP for for the item or part it to be considered in Poor Condition
    Destroyed: Cannot be salvaged.

    Salvage Time for Vehicles

Salvage requires time to break down into usable materials and components, though. Salvaging or scrapping by hand can eat up time, but there are tools available to use and means to make it go faster.   By hand, salvaging and tearing down a four-wheeled dieselcar bumper to bumper takes 8 hours for one person. If additional people are assisting, the amount of time is divided by the number of helpers working on the salvage job. People that are proficient with the tools associated with salvaging the item or vehicle can halve the time further, as long as they meet the requirements and have the tools.   Because you are halving the time with the more people you add, there are diminishing returns with additional help.   A claw operator arm on some vehicles or repair bays on landships can be used to double the rate of dismantling.   This list indicates the salvage times for a vehicle for 1 person, which can be divided depending on persons or tools available. This time requirement is the total, uninterrupted amount.
  • Small: 4 hours
  • Medium: 8 hours
  • Large: 24 hours
  • Massive: 1 week
