Cover
In Dustriders, Cover is a vital means of avoiding or reducing damage from ranged attacks. Cover only really works in one direction and is dependent on your positioning relative to the enemy, i.e. if someone is able to get a direct line of sight on you, your cover will not work against their attacks. Cover improves your Evasion. The degree to which it improves it depends on the type of cover.
Elevation differences raise or lower the value of the cover by a factor of one. If you are 5 or more feet above a target in Medium cover, that cover is then treated as Low Cover. If you are 5 feet or more below a target that is in Medium cover, that cover is then treated as High Cover.
Situations where cover is neutralizedWhen exposed by a flanking enemy with a direct line of sight
When cover is destroyed
When on the opposite side of a block of Light or Half cover from an enemy, i.e. if you are up against the same piece of cover as an enemy, it is neutralized for attacks made by both of you ignore cover, otherwise, cover benefits apply to you for anyone making attacks from a distance, and opposite that cover.
When you or an enemy is using a weapon or maneuver that ignores cover.
Total Cover
Examples of Total Cover: The interior of a building that completely blocks line of sight from the outside.
Prevents the individual in Total Cover from being targeted via normal means.
Occludes AOE effects unless otherwise specified, removing the need for a saving throw.
High Cover
Examples of High Cover: A column at least 5 feet in height, tall enough and wide enough to mostly obscure a player, a large rock that mostly obscures the player, or any solid surface that mostly obscures the player like a full ballistic shield.
Gives full benefits to being in cover
Raises evasion by 6 for attacks coming from the other side of the cover
Gives advantage on Dex Saves vs. AOE effects
Medium Cover
Examples of Medium Cover: An overturned table that obscures half of the player if they're standing, a raised shield that obscures half of the player, a concrete barricade that obscures half the player, sandbags that obscure half the player.
Raises evasion by 4
Gives advantage on Dex Saves vs. AOE effects
Low Cover
Examples of Low Cover: Some pallets that only partially obscure the player, a small tree, bushes, low rocks, a raised shield that partially obscures the player's upper torso
Raises evasion by 2
Does not give advantage on Dex Saves vs. AOE effects
Armor-plated Cover
Subtracts an additional 3 points of damage regardless if Full, Half, or Low Cover.
Elevation differences raise or lower the value of the cover by a factor of one. If you are 5 or more feet above a target in Medium cover, that cover is then treated as Low Cover. If you are 5 feet or more below a target that is in Medium cover, that cover is then treated as High Cover.
