Retban

Retban is a city that came to be of necessity and convenience of travel and overtime has grown into a staple city of the Eastlands. Retban is known as the last bastion city before one hits the Jha'Mon Desert and its claim to fame comes from the expansive docks which house many travelers and good as they make their way from this relatively eastern central city to their true destinations.

Demographics

Retban being a port city gives it a great diversity of citizens though it has notably larger gnome subpopulation in comparison to most cities as far away from Gwemgrann as it is due to it's industrious necessities.

Government

Retban is under the firm control of The Council of Nine. The current council member holding control of the city is Vizier Arroh Diamondarm who runs the city in a firm semi-militaristic fashion resulting from wariness because of it's location close to the desert which in the past has made it a target takeover city for growing enemy factions.

Defences

Retban is known to house a small sand naval fleet currently under the command of Viceroy Sumit Bali. The soliders are expert in sand ship combat as well as infantry and ilcoocoo cavalry tactics.

Industry & Trade

Retban's lifeblood is its docks. The importing and exporting of goods as well as catering to incoming travelers whether that be through service or industry is how its citizens make their living. There are small mining settlements that can "help" citizens who'd prefer not to do dock work and find they are unsuited for a life of combat in defense of Retban but this is largely an option many would not willingly chose.

Infrastructure

Retban's claim to fame is it's massive dock district which composes nearly half the city. This is not surprising to local entrepreneurs either as it's location leaves it little to offer outside of a bit of mining if not being a fine middle point for bringing in and shipping out goods. There are also flourishing industrial mills located towards the heart of the city who work tirelessly to produce and recycle ship parts for the upwards of hundreds of ships that can make their way in and out of the city in a day.

History

Retban has a bad history for being a target for enemy forces or the conspirators for violent revolts. Many Viziers since it's founding and to this day work to paint Retban's history in a brighter more industrious light; as a bastion of progress, trade, and safety as opposed to a vulnerable outlier city of potential insurrectionists.

Points of interest

There are several points of interest within Retban:
The Udyog Bhavan is a building located within the court districts of Retban and is where the Vizier and his viceroy rule from.
Great Urda's Statue is a towering statue that can be seen almost as soon as entering the dock districts.
The Amber Fortress is a solid rocky fortress built just on the south border of the dock district
The Tribute of the Broken is a landmark that can be seen when one begins to enter the Industrial and Market District
Gabalgorath's Helm is a landmark statue built between the dock district and the The Amber Fortress.

Geography

Retban is located on the border between harsh desert and rocky cliff and sparse grasslands with little access to fresh water.

Climate

The climate offers little relief to the citizens of Retban as they are subjected to the brunt of sandstorms and the hottest days of dry season with very rare reprieve.
