Pip

Pip

Pip is an ancient construct unearthed by Gaius Vipsanius, currently part of a group employed by Atam Radag, officially hired to look for ancient relics in the Eastlands. but with much greater purpose.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

This construct stands at exactly 6ft tall, not one micrometer off from those measurements. The body is some kind of mithral alloy with a faint silver blue hue to it, which seems to reflect light less than one would expect for most constructs. The 'bone structure' or rather the build of the construct is fairly androgynous, and would be hard to describe if spotted by an onlooker. "It was a construct, kind of silver or steel? it had two eyes."

Body Features

A blade is retracted into a hidden compartment on the construct's left arm. The construct has three fingers and two toes, the back of the foot having a pointed sort of 'heel' shape for shock absorption, suggesting this construct was intended to endure long falls frequently. The finish to the metal reflects little light, and the thin frame hides a substantial amount of strength in each joint.

Facial Features

The near featureless face (other than two 'eyes' that function as a visual medium for the construct to interact with the world) suggest this construct was not meant to interact with humanoids socially.   It has a sort of helmet shape to the top of its head, protruding out from the rest of its 'face' by a small margin. This design choice seems more than aesthetic, the shape suggesting it is likely meant to deflect blows.

Identifying Characteristics

Two jade colored orb eyes slotted into its head, three fingers, two toes, heel structure, humanoid. A more casual observer might not notice the alloy, but those who know a lot about constructs would find the metal it is made of unusual.

Physical quirks

When performing tasks like combat or medicine, the construct behaves very stiff and artificial, but when outside of these situations it seems to become more animated, but unnatural, like it is imitating humanoid behavior to try to fit in.

Apparel & Accessories

The construct always seems to be covering most of its body, save the head, with a red cloak. The construct keeping its hands close to its body and obscuring its movements beneath.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Pip's earliest memories as his personality's current iteration are of waking up due to the magical traps of the outpost he was buried within triggering, having detected an intruder, and observing him through the ruined and brittle to the touch scrying orbs of the cave system. Upon seeing the creature exploring the ruins, he realized it was not a humanoid he'd ever seen before, and the simple thought of "when did they start looking like that" quickly changed to "when is now?" The automated killer instinct he'd been feeling quickly fading as he re-evaluated the situation. He would instead approach and introduce himself, coming up on the fly with the name "Pip", and thus began his long friendship with Gaius Vipsanius.   He'd try to leave him a few times with various excuses and disguises, not willing to explain why until many attempts had passed, eventually confessing that he feels like if he keeps traveling with him, Gaius will die, having many memories of similar companions and various circumstances of their deaths, some he is certain by his own hand. In the end he was convinced to keep traveling with the Dragonborn, for better or worse.   It became obvious in their travels that Pip was meant for sneaking, subterfuge, scouting, and was rather good at killing as well, though he swears up and down he prefers stealing to killing, only from people who deserve it, of course.   Eventually, he and Gaius both received a letter from Atam Radag, instructing them to go to The Last Sand Tavern in Eduna, where they would meet their soon to be long term adventuring group, allies Calligraphy and Shush.

Education

While most of his skill set is from a long forgotten life and civilization, resurfacing either when he needs it, or via automated processes like his medical skills, Pip has learned street smarts all over again from sleuthing around when separated from Gaius, and has occasionally found his way through secret passages into dens of thieves to practice his lockpicking skills.   More recently, a series of memories have resurfaced of training, repeatedly with a strange sword with two blades, it is still foggy, but he is certain that this memory is something he specifically chose to do in the past, rather than something instructed, automated, or better left forgotten.

Employment

Pip is currently officially employed by Atam Radag.

Accomplishments & Achievements

Assisted in putting an at least temporary end to a group of Jackalweres that were attacking travelers in the desert.   Helped uncover the hidden history of an ancient city where an old king was defeated and killed, he may have also had something to do with what happened there in the past, though he does not remember how it ended from his own perspective.   Survived an attack on the vessel he was aboard by the Consuming Sands.

Failures & Embarrassments

Pip is touchy on his past, and doesn't want to remember it, he is who he is now and not whatever he was before. He will try to remember if it is relevant, or necessary, but even then he won't share more details than he needs to unless hard pressed by his companions.

Mental Trauma

Many of the memories he does have are of people he was friends with dead, or failing people he thought he was supposed to protect. There is much blood on his hands, and he is not sure why, or if he wants to know why.

Morality & Philosophy

Pip is the classic 'steal from the rich, give to the poor' kind of Thief. That said, he's not dumb enough to try stealing from his employer, or anyone who is going to kill him or his friends for the transgression. Laws are something that the powerful use only when it is convenient, so why should it be any different for him? He is willing to kill, but if someone is unarmed, unconscious, or otherwise captured he prefers not to unless it's absolutely necessary.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Pip wants to leave a legacy he can be proud of, rather than the past he doesn't want to think about, and to pass on knowledge or create something of his own, since as a Construct he can't reproduce in the classical sense. He'd prefer it if involved becoming rich and famous, but saving the world might work too.

Savvies & Ineptitudes

He is good at sneaking, stealing, killing, picking locks, making poisons, crafting disguises and navigating by the stars, he is strong for how thin his metallic body appears and he is acrobatic, he can also jump very far. He has a knack for tapping into ancient memories of his to find secret passages and ways through urban sprawls others might not think of.

Pip is terrible talking to people when it comes to anything that isn't lying to guards to get out of trouble. He is also no good in an exposure or wilderness survival situation, since he has never had to worry about that himself.

Likes & Dislikes

Likes: Exploring, solitude, testing his limits when it comes to acrobatics or speed.   Dislikes: Authority figures, evil magic, being patronized.

Social

Contacts & Relations

Positive Relationships:

Gaius Vipsanius, best alive friend.
Varga'Sharaf, best dead friend.
Calligraphy, second best alive friend.
Shush, he hasn't tried to kill Pip yet.
Atam Radag, employer, and seemed to emphasize to some degree with the Gith dying so he can't be all bad.

Negative Relationships:

King Nephkanier, while dead as far as he knows, is either directly or indirectly responsible for people that an old him cared about dying, even if he can't remember who they were or why he cared it still hurts Pip on some level, curse his ghost.

Family Ties

Varga'Sharaf as far as he can piece together was a friend and the closest thing he probably had to family, either that or the fellow constructs he was in a line with when confronting... something, since they probably had the same creator he does.

Religious Views

He is out of touch with the gods of the current age, and has no strong feelings about any of them. He is looking into a god named Hymnox, one that stirs memories in him from the holy symbol he'd picked up off a fellow construct in the ruins, perhaps he used to worship him too?

Hobbies & Pets

He has an Ilcoocoo named Parle that he got both for his own comfort and to ride through the desert, he is not very good with animals but it keeps him busy to care for something when everyone else is eating or sleeping. Otherwise he enjoys parkour and lockpicking even beyond using those skills for work.

Speech

Despite being 'from' the Eastlands, Pip has a bad accent more similar to Gaius' or someone from certain parts of Central, but lower class and kind of forced, not naturally learned, used more to fit in with Gaius. He is very straightforward and stiff should he ever speak his native tongue.
