Bryce Wrynn

Bryce Wrynn (a.k.a. The Bat)

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Bryce, without the cowl, looks like the average hired hand. His long hair is usually combed back, and his mannerisms suggest he's not the most confident in public spaces.     The Bat, by comparison, is a looming figure, who moves with an overabundance of confidence.

Facial Features

His face, while square in the jaw and usually close to cleanly shaved, isn't much to write home about in terms of good looks. His face generally could be described as 'forgettable'.   This makes it all the more jarring when his cowl is on, given its rather distinctive appearance makes that more memorable than any of the visible face beneath.

Identifying Characteristics

The most notable feature about Bryce is his completely featureless white eyes.   If asked when out of uniform, he'll explain it as a condition, and simply leave it at that. If you ask the Bat, he is far more open about his eyes being a side effect of his fighting style, channelling the power of the bat to strike at those who try to use the night as cover.

Apparel & Accessories

Bryce is often wearing well tailored but slightly worn lighter clothes. Given his history as a tailor, he often performs maintenance on his own wardrobe.   The Bat is never seen without his dark furred cowl, a hooked-ear shape to its structure, adorned with bat's teeth and covering most of his face. He wears black leathers, carrying a shield with an engraving of a bat upon it.   Bryce carries a wing-shaped scimitar, a pair of handaxes, and a large battle axe.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Bryce Wrynn was born to a moderately successful family of clothiers, though tragedy struck very early on in his life. While he, his father, and his older brother were returning from a supply restock, they were jumped by a group of bandits. While his father and brother were killed trying to protect their wares, Bryce - only 10 at the time - was spared, written off as 'not worth the trouble', as the bandits stole his father's coin-pouch and some of the furs before running off.   Left the only child of his mother, Meryl Wrynn, Bryce spent his teenage years trying to help her run the shop alone, though more as the heavy lifter and supply runner for his mother. He began to train himself physically, both to be of more assistance to his frail mother and to begin fighting scum threatening him during the restocks. At the same time, he learned how to eavesdrop on criminals, actively listening for any word of the group that had murdered his kin.   After his mother died, and properly seeing her laid to rest with his father and brother, Bryce set into motion his long term plan. Selling his family's shop, he set out on the trail of the bandits, putting together an outfit themed on the primal spirit of the bat. Channelling their stealth and speed, he became eyes in the night, seeking out criminal activity and striking at it without mercy.

Education

Coming from a relatively successful merchant family, Bryce received a fairly advanced education, fuelling his later investigative skills substantially. This was only added to with his own personal research into criminal methods, later in life.

Employment

After working as a freelance tailor and mercenary, after leaving his home town, he is now under the employ of the Gilded Guardians.

Mental Trauma

While one would expect the death of his father and brother to be a source of lingering trauma, the presence of Bryce's mother helped keep him fairly stable. This, coupled with his more eccentric method of making sure no others fell to the same fate, have left Bryce as stable as one would expect an adventurer to be, and surprisingly chipper with his chosen duty. However, it is noticeable he is less brash and loud when circumstances related to innocents who lost parental figures are raised.

Morality & Philosophy

The Bat makes it very clear through his actions that he's a good person... Though his methods sometimes raise brows. Even while out of the cowl, Bryce still echoes this virtue, though his method of helping is more often assisting with physical tasks or taking basic guard duties for those who need help, regardless of their standing in society.   And as his adventures have shown him more of the depths of evil beyond simple criminal activity, his resolve has only grown more steeled.

Social

Speech

Bryce is soft spoken and coarse voiced, when in his civilian clothes, though his accent is hard to place.   This only gets harder to place when he is in his work uniform. His voice booms loudly, the man seeming to have an inability to modulate his voice if he feels it's time to talk.
