Keepers

On paper, the position of Keeper is that of guardian of the Land and the Tree of Life. Theirs is the power and blood sacrificed in order to keep the rest of the Awakened safe, which comes with the price of being unable to leave the Land’s limits. They are spiritual leaders and advisors to the rest of the Awakened, stewards of the histories that keep them safe, ensuring that all are capable of existing without fear of HIS terrible wrath.
In truth, being Keeper often comes with political weight. Due to the nature of the magic that governs the Ritual of the Land, as well as the laws of the Awakened as written, they are the only force capable of determining who is and isn’t allowed to remain within each Land. It is common to find Lands occupied solely by members of one Faction, or with the others present only in a small minority, with Keepers functioning as the de facto leader or even tyrant of any given Land.
This makes the City of Doxley remarkably rare as Lands go, being one of the few whose Keeper Diego Armando genuinely adheres to a policy of open borders for all Awakened who seek shelter from HIM, regardless of ideological beliefs.
