Southern Isles

The Southern Islands were unclaimed in the Mythic Era, with neither Elves, Dwarves, or Dragons staking a claim to the region. In the Heroic Era, human settlements became common, with Lurian and Atathian colonists running into conflicts with the native lizardfolk. The islands have strategic importance as they lie on the major international sea routes between the east and west, which has made them a battleground between the major empires and ripe for smugglers and pirates. The islands have little mineral wealth, but they are ideal for growing cash crops like sugar, tobacco, cocoa, and coffee.

Dragonsreach: the southernmost holding of the Xin Empire. An enterprising black dragon claimed the island as a tributary after the Atathians were unable to defend it following the Demonic Invasion. Culturally, the island is predominantly Atathian, but a warrior caste of dragonborn samurai ensure that tribute is paid to the dragonlord in its lair in mainland Xin.
Isla Rinaldi: A small island, at one point mostly owned by the Rinaldi family with sugar plantations. When the Rinaldis were found to have illegally forced slaves to work on their plantations, they gave a significant portion of land in restitution. About half of the island is now owned by Esvelda Rinaldi, with the remainder in the "Free Towns".
Lizard Islands: A series of small islands primarily inhabited by the Lizardfolk. The lizardfolk here have managed to fight off human invasions.
Lost Colony of Cassiodunum: The island was settled by Atathians a few hundred years ago with a central port and a few small settlements. The island is named after Emperor Cassius III. However, the islands 3000 human inhabitants all went missing, with no clues present. Most suspect some dark magic, but the true cause is unknown. Most ships avoid the island now, but occasionally someone lands to seek treasure. Sometimes, they return with stories of strange ruins in the deep jungles.
