Lizardfolk

The Lizardfolk are common across the swamps, jungles, and tropical coasts of the Southern Continent and the southern reaches of the Eastern Continent. They live in the tropical regions of both continents, avoiding the dry deserts and the cold winters of temperate regions.

Basic Information

Behaviour

The unique mindset of Lizardfolk often puts them at odds with Humans and other races. Conflict is common, with the ongoing conflict in Nuovo Tezzano as one example. However, this is not always the case. The Great King Ntimbwe was able to earn the loyalty of many Lizardfolk by understanding their perspective and working with them on their terms. Lizardfolk evaluate objects, concepts, and other people based on utility, risk, and without emotion, which manifests in unique ways. Other races tend to fixate on the habit of cannibalism of the dead as the most shocking component of this mindset. However, this mindset plays out in many other ways. Lizardfolk can make and evaluate plans without feelings of anger, pride, or attachment clouding their logic. Due to this, Lizardfolk can be brutal and cunning strategists, who are more than willing to engage in scorched earth, ambushes, and other strategies that other humanoids find distasteful or dishonorable.   Lizardfolk are incapable of holding a grudge (although they can evaluate if someone is a continued threat or risk).   They are similarly incapable of fanaticism, faith, or true allegiance - no Lizardfolk will believe in a cause, much less die for one. Lizardfolk view the Gods and other powerful entities with the same evaluation of risk and value as other beings. As such, they can be highly transactional in their dealings. Druids, Clerics, and Paladins are extremely rare, but Warlocks are surprisingly common.   Lizardfolk understand that working together as a community can increase the strength of the group and protect against larger threats. However, they do not feel any emotional attachment to their family, village, clan, or nation. They are willing to split ties with their group if doing so is advantageous.   Similarly, they do not view territory in an emotional lens. They are unlikely to fight to take back territory that was once theirs simply because of revanchism, but instead because of the current value of the site. They do not have historic or sacred sites.

Major Language Groups and Dialects

Lizardfolk speak a language called Scaletongue by Humans, not Draconic as is commonly misunderstood.
