Demon Ice

Demon ice is a crystal found in Aurorium and other coastal regions of the northern continent. It has only been found in recent years. Atathian scholars speculate that it's spread is linked to the unholy corruption of the Dead Lands. Skjoldr tell that the Demon Ice heralds the return of the Witch Queen, who was slain long ago by ancient heroes.
The crystal is black in appearance, and grows in monolithic structures from the open ground.
Demon ice has strong magical properties and exudes warmth. When it first appeared, miners began to harvest the crystal for sale, but quickly halted when it was found that prolonged exposure caused madness and nightmares. Most shun the dark crystal, but some still use it, particularly to keep warm in the freezing colds.
The number of crystals has increased since its initial discovery and is believed to be spreading. The spread of the crystals is particularly prevalent in Aurorium. Many of the Dwarves see the spread of the crystals as a reason to retreat into their Clanholds.
