Salakmidan

The nation of Salakmidan was born in the aftermath of the Forgotten War when the Midean slave soldiers, who had been subjugated by the Lahkmids for centuries, rebelled. Their faith diverged, holding Salakmid, not Lahkmid, as the true prophet of the old gods, which led to their original enslavement. Seizing the chaos of the war, the Mideans established their own country just north of Lahkmidalah. Salakmidan is a tribal society with 12 tribes, a powerful warrior culture that specializes in desert warfare and horse archery, blending steppe and southern influences. Though less refined, their military strength is formidable, and they maintain strong borders and a council-driven government system.

Demography and Population

Salakmidan is home to three major ethnic groups: the Medians, the Timujids, and the Rimalaabi, with the Rimalaabi being the smallest in percentage. The Medians make up the majority of the population, having descended from the enslaved warrior class that founded the nation. The Timujids hail from the northern steppe culture and bring a strong tradition of horse archery and desert warfare. The Rimalaabi live as nomads, deeply connected to the desert, and though fewer in number, they are known for their agility in warfare and stealth.

Foreign Relations

Salakmidan enjoys favorable political ties with both Chengasa and Yun Xi, maintaining strategic alliances that support its military and economic endeavors. These relationships benefit the region, especially with Chengasa, whose culture and military prowess influence Salakmidan's own practices, and with Yun Xi, known for its advanced engineering and technological innovations.

Laws

Salakmidan’s legal system is largely based on tribal customs and interpretations of the prophet Salakmid's law codes, guided by the belief in the divine role of the prophet. Law in Salakmidan is primarily enforced at the tribal level, with each of the 12 tribes having its own council of elders who govern their internal matters. These councils decide on punishments for crimes, ranging from exile to more severe measures such as public executions or tribal shaming. On a national scale, the Tribal Council, which consists of representatives from all 12 tribes, also has a role in legal matters that transcend individual tribal concerns, such as border disputes or issues involving multiple tribes. The council works as a legislative and judicial body, deliberating on laws and conflicts. Enforcement is done through a combination of tribal militias and warriors, as there is no centralized police force.
