Kingdom of Ocros

Structure

While the Kingdom of Ocros does have a monarch and a royal family they don't hold the power they once did. Once the city itself was founded the soldiers decided that they did more than others and should be allowed to rule so the city is governed by the Commander of the army. The only nobility to speak of is a military hierarchy of generals and other high ranking officers who either seek glory and success on the battle field to earn promotions or some who attempt subterfuge and flattery however those caught trying this may find themselves tangled in a duel to the death against more skilled opponents.   The only role within the ruling structure that has no tie to direct military and martial might is that of the Chief Sorcerer, the individual in charge of all things magical, and more recently technological. This role is selected from the brightest minds of the Guild of Sorcerers although some do rise up through political and social skill instead of Intelligence.

Public Agenda

The Kingdom of Ocros is mainly dedicated towards discovery, making leaps and bounds through magic and technology to make themselves a shining beacon of the future city. This is mainly through lax rules and extra funding given to those who strive for such discovery's.

History

The Kingdom of Ocros places it's roots in the original myth of the four guardians, being one of the tribes to participate in the Great War as well as being almost wiped out and then saved by the guardians. The people of Ocros do not hold this to any high standard, viewing their ancestors as lucky instead of brave and so while the legend is still taught to children in schools very few people or groups believe in it or care for it.   Within their recorded history, Ocros is the first city to be founded and their tribe the first to settle and discover society beyond nomadic wandering. They are a welcoming people, letting in anyone regardless of background so many view it as a fresh start city but all are expected to help aid the city and kingdom. They also expanded their reach throughout The Iron Hills and The Mineral Dunes to create numerous quarries and mining sites to begin extracting resources for use in research and discovery.   In recent history the city has been exploring more into the field of Magitech designs and their application for civilian and military use. They have also begun to trade more openly with the other kingdoms, noticeably the Kingdom of Ates. These trades are mostly oddities being imported and older technology, by Ocros standard, exported to others.

Demography and Population

Most of the people of Ocros do not live in it's capital city but instead in mining, logging or other resource camps scattered throughout the territory. This is due to the vast quantity of resources that the civilisation consumes but also because the terrain around the city is incredibly restrictive for building.   Of those who do live within the capital it is mostly researchers, military families and the upper echelon of the Army. This leads to the city seeming quite empty of life at times however some civilians do live there for the increase quality of life that the technology provides as well as the public services available however this does leave them below ground for most of their life due to the above ground being taken up by the homes of 'nobility' or by military and industrial buildings.

Territories

The Kingdom of Ocros owns a smaller territory compared to some of the other kingdoms, however of what they do own every inch has been recorded and used to some end and in some venture. Within The Iron Hills they mine and quarry for exotic ores and raw materials to create and test new inventions on. Within The Mineral Dunes they extract minerals from the sands, as well as using the open space to test new weapons.   The only place that the Ocrons don't try to claim hold over is the depths of The UnderDark as it isn't solely within their lands but also because of the push back from it's inhabitants, both the sentient and the simple. However that doesn't stop them running expeditions to collect strange materials and specimens either through quite in and out collection or negotiation with the societies that live far below them.

Military

If the Army of Ates is a force to be wary of, the Army of Ocros is a force to flee from. Not only is the main way to the top of society through bloody battle and glory, but every soldier down to the meekest foot solider wields the most recent magitech weapon that the Guild of Sorcerers has designed. However the army of Ocros is smaller than that of it's neighbour they have made up for this with a sizeable contingent of golems and constructs of all types in place of raw man power.   The lowest ranks of the army are collectively known as the Earth guard and they spend most of the time patrolling the streets and arresting petty criminals, working as an effective constabulary force. They are the last to receive new technology and funding but it does trickle down over time.   The next ranks are known as the Iron Bulwark, due to their duties being to patrol the walls of Ocros as well as protect the villages and outposts from external threats such as bandits or rogue monsters/ animals. These soldiers tend to wield newer technology, although some on the fringes do miss out on some pieces as they are phased out before their tour ends and they get to return home.   The next level is a true test of martial prowess as the Mountain Breakers have one of the most dangerous jobs of the army. They are the ones who have to plunge into the depths of the mountains to bring back specimens and exotic materials, through any means necessary. They are given the newest weapons to trial run as well as the best equipment to protect them from the threats in The UnderDark. This is where the best of the best get a chance to distinguish themselves, however many lose their lives trying to stand out.   The highest ranks of the military are The Steel Defenders. These are the other upper echelon of the army and their tasks vary. Some lead the Mountain Breakers personally, others are given land and iron defenders to manage it and others still remain in the city to take over as a sector command for the Earthen guard. Often the Steel Defenders receive personalised equipment, built specifically for them and it often leads to them earning unique titles from the other ranks and occasionally the civilian population.

Technological Level

The kingdom of Ocros is a shining beacon of technology and magic, and they only want to do better. Their technology is leaps and bounds ahead of the other kingdoms and that's not counting the theoretical and prototype projects.   The Kingdom of Ocros was the first to design usable firearms, the first to develop magitech engines and take to skies in airships. Their boats are propelled by propellers and their carriages are pulled by coal power or constructs.   The military makes routine use of black powder, unique magic and a host of other contraptions to ensure the survival of their troops. This includes a host of flying, walking and burrowing constructs of all sizes and with all manner of weaponry to defend against larger creatures such as giants or underground monsters like bulettes or the dreaded land worms.

Trade & Transport

The Kingdom of Ocros trades often with it's neighbours as it lacks one main resource, food supplies as the land around The Iron Hills is infertile or difficult to build on. This is typically with Kingdom of Inios as they possess ample food from the oceans bounty.   For exports, The Kingdom of Ocros sends out minerals it doesn't need in vast quanitites and older technology that the specific kingdom may desire, such as glass that is strong as steel for the Kingdom of Inios to use below the surface of the waves or Air ships for the people of the Kingdom of Kuthras to better navigate the air ways of their home.

Infrastructure

The people that live within The city of Ocros itself find themselves within a hub of knowledge and encouragement towards academia and to this end, there are plenty of schools both public or private and older members of society can enlist to work under researchers or engineers to help gain the experience needed to sign on as an apprentice.   Outside the capital, there is typically one school to a settlement and the education more practical for the way of life to that settlement, so a mining town would teach geology over theocracy or economics.   The technology of the infrastructure means that transport is varied and easily accessible so many people will travel away from home once old enough to learn more or to enlist to join the army and travel upwards in society.
