General Races Allowed in Dungeon of Graves | World Anvil

General Races Allowed

Only Races within Player's Handbook, Tasha's, and Xanthar's, and Sword Coast books are allowed.

Exceptions: Goliath, and races defined within World Anvil for this Campaign.

In the lands of men, most are men and women from the local region. But nearly all have heard stories at the very least of the other races. Races that are reknowned for good or evil depending on that families personal history and their views of wars long past.

Humans

Humans predominate the civilized lands. Most sages and traveling bards would agree that 9 out of 10 members of civilized society are human. Humans from a racial build are identical to standard stats from the Player's handbook.

Half-Elven

Half-elves are the uncommon occurence from rare loves between the two races. Due to the fact that elves have largely left the lands of men, the two races do not have many encounters together but they still occur on occasion. While more accepted within the elven communities than human civilization, half-elves tend to still live as outcasts in either place.

Elves

While once one of the primary races in the world, conflicts with the race of men have pushed the elves to retreat from the majority of the lands of men back to sacred forests to reconsolidate their strength. The elven nations have united recently (High Elf & Wood Elf) within their most sacred forests and homes. They use strong magic and fiercely protect their borders from intrusion. Using strong magic and fiercely defending their borders from access few men ever realize that elves still have power in this world. Players playing an elf must choose either a High Elf or Wood Elf subrace.

High Elves

These elves comprise the majority of the elves people know. While all elves are fond of nature and the forest, these elves have become the more scholarly and civilized. They have convinced their cousins, the Wood Elves to live with them again in a fragile peace.

Wood Elves

This wild silvan elves are rugged and wild finding themselves more at home in the deep ancient forests. Their cities are smaller and comprised of living trees within the forest.

Drow Elves

Not a playable character race at this time. Drow are universally considered the enemy of all civilized society.

Dwarves

Tough folk known as master craftsmen. This race was also a primary race within the land until conflicts with humans. They still maintain some contact with humans but on a limited and wary basis. Humans are not allowed within the borders of their lands, whom like the elves, they've learned to defend fiercely. Mountain and Hill subraces have not consolidated themselves as a race or even subraces. They occupy multiple areas outside the reach of man deep in the mountains and in isolated hills.

Mountain

Mountain dwarves are very much like described in the PHB.

Hill

Hill Dwarves are very much like described in the PHB.

Duegar

Not a playable character race at this time. While largely considered a myth, duegar are universally considered the enemy of all civilized society.

Halflings

Same as PHB. Small communities exist at borders of human lands.

Lightfoot

Same as PHB.

Stout

Same as PHB.

Dragonborn

Not a playable character race at this time. This race is unheard of in this land.

Gnomes

Rock

More common of the gnomes. This has a few cities that are fiercely protected and known only to a few. Their are rumors of a secret alliance between at least of clan of gnomes and one of the major human nations to develop war machines used in fighting.

Forest

POTENTIALLY playable character race at this time. All Forest Gnomes are reclusive by nature and due to centuries of human warmongering there would need to be a very convincing backstory why a character would interact with men.

Half-Orc

Half-Orcs are the uncommon occurence from rare rapes between the two races in the borderlands. Due to the fact that most human women in civilized lands do not keep these children. Those of maturity are often from truly small towns on the borders or escapees from an orc tribe with human slaves. Players choosing a half-orc character should be prepared for life an unwanted outcast.

Tiefling

POTENTIALLY playable character race at this time. All tieflings have an inborn evil taint within themselves. This race is extremely rare and will be treated as an outcast of society who fear the unknown. A single PC may be able to play this race assuming we can agree on the backstory.
