House Cul'thir

Based on the water planet Olious IV, House Cul'thir is a major house that specializes in creating extremely lethal poisons, known for being quick and painless. They also have developed key technology in aquaculture they use to grow food.
The house rose from obscurity as a minor house under House Atreides over five thousand years ago. They were granted the fief over Olious IV making them a major house. During it's time as a minor house, the Cul'thir were allied with House Ordos. The two houses worked toward a common goal, until the Ordos betrayed the Cul'thir. The feud between these houses continues to fester.
Fifty years ago, the house was invited by House Kemic to mine spice on Arrakis based in the garrison town of Tsimpo. They have done well mining the spice, and have grown wealthy from this. Rumors around the Lansdraad suggest the Cul'thir are poised to make the transition into becoming a Great House, and some talk of the Emperor granting the house a CHOAM Directorship.
Olious IV is a strange looking world, as the oceans that cover 95% of the planet are a rusty orange color. This comes from a particular strain of algae that populates the ocean. This algae is the basis of the food chain on Olious IV. The algea itself is toxic to terrestrial life. The native life absorbs this toxin either from eating the algae, or from eating other animals. Many native species of the planet create their own toxins as well that are not only poisonous to terrestrial life, but Olioun life as well. It is from these animals that the Cul'thir create their poisons.
The need for food for humans has lead to the house developing specialized aquaculture technology allowing them to grow edible seaweed and fish without toxins. This technology has proved useful on other worlds in the Imperium.

Minor Houses

Three minor houses operate under House Cul'thir. Each has it's own speciality.

House Taira oversees Samnu city, which is a large floating city in the southern hemispher of Olious IV. The city is the main base of Olioun squid fishing. These squids are considered a delicacy on many worlds.

House Nanbu is based in Rausu, a city state on the edge of Olious IV's north pole. The Nanbu operate a operation extracting minerals out of the ice which are the result of the orange algea being compressed in the ice over millenia.
House Gosanke maintain a base on Olious IV's largest moon, Tsuki. There they mine the moon which contains an unusually large amount of uranium.
