Proto-Proteans

Self-named Proto-Proteans were originally Royal Proteans. Yet after they left the Throne and settled in more isolated locations: They started to mutate into more stable, agile, low-maintenance, and potentially more intelligent creatures. Yet they lost many natural gifts like traveling perception, hive mind, and Clairancy. Proto-Proteans are a misanthropic, emotionless, and intelligent breed of Royal Proteans. While being distant and isolated from most, they had an affinity toward Nomads; Occasionally, they hosted and helped nomad packs(Outside their Vergs). Yet they didn't like Half-bloods and humans. But the collective thinking among Proto-Protean society is practically nonexistent.   Once they resettled in Northern Naisha during the Protean Dominancy, they clandestinely scattered around in Dun'Ia. Settling in Quelgannah, Haaqana, the Dania Sea, the Skanan mountains, and some other places.   Proto-proteans remain a mystery to the modern world. They're generally harmless if left alone. But otherwise, they can be incredibly damaging. They could create turmoil, disorder, and unbalance in their society. And either destroy or control them.   The healthiest way to encounter them would be on their own terms;   For example, in the Skanan mountains, some Solumite tribes consisting of humans and half-bloods would offer their young to Proto-Proteans as a tribute. They would be taken to Proto-Protean Vergs and stay there for months to years. Most would return, remembering nothing solid, no directions, whom they spent their time with, or what they did... But sometimes bringing newborn babies, healthier, sickly, wiser, lamer, mad, happy, sad, depressed, damaged; Talking of dreams and pleasures, what they remember of reality, fake previous lives, unclear pieces of advanced alchemical techniques...   Proto-Proteans are very advance in alchemy. Especially techniques related to intellect. But in momentary alchemy, they are known to be weaker. However, they'd make up for it by producing various gears.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Proto-proteans are short, thin and thin skinned. Their heads are a bit larger proportionate to their bodies. They are very similar to Royal-Proteans in anatomy.

Biological Traits

The greatest killers of Proto-proteans would be the ilnesses they developed. These ilnesses would be named after their first patients. Asexual reproduction would left them vulnerable to ilnesses. They were short, slender and low energy. Would move very slowly and rarely.

Genetics and Reproduction

Proto-Proteans would reproduce like the rest. Yet their sex drive would act unexpectedly from time to time.   Female Proto-Proteans could and sometimes would reproduce asexually. Yet both males and females would have a keen interest in pleasures of the flesh. They see sex as a simple need and sometimes a subject to study.   Their reproduction would take a very long time; Tens of years and would mostly fail. The newly produced person would be like the clone(Could be both male or female) of the parent after birth. But as they grew, experiences would reshape the clone into a different person.

They complete phsycal growth when they reach the age of 20. Their mental growth goes on for a lifetime.

Ecology and Habitats

Perfect evironment for Proto-proteans are isolated, cold and wet places. They don't like loud noises or sudden changes of temperature. They'd mostly whisper to each other.

Dietary Needs and Habits

They'd eat extremely small amounts in large gaps. They'd keep eating the Throne mushrooms. Yet they wouldn't have an optimised food. Their dietery needs were mostly covered by liquids. Their water consumption would sometimes act as food.   They were Omnivores.

Biological Cycle

They sleep more often then their counterparts. Couple hours once in a day or two; Also they frequently napped. Their visions would be most clear in short naps. Longer they sleep, they'd see more complicated and unclear visions.

Behaviour

Proto-Proteans live a life of loneliness, not only from other species but sometimes from each other. They could be considered not to be a social animal. But they would utilize each others help from time to time and their anti-social nature could shift sometimes.   They can be considered their social and emotional needs are supressed under a mountain of intellect and logical thinking. But sometimes it comes out.    Yet they do have the common thinking of superiority among almost all remaining species and a longing for Royal-Proteans. Most Proto-Proteans in the modern Dun'Ia, remembers the Royal Proteans.   They are unaware that their pride and inner frustrations weakens their body and makes them more fragile. And being very illusive and intelligent, no other specie or individual was able to deter this conclusion.

Social Structure

They were the most socialy untalented Protean breed ever lived. Indiviualism was more valued then society, so they'd usually fight amongst themselves which can even lead to violence.  They are very passionate about their works, which is the most valued thing in their societies. Unlike other species, they work not only in alchemy but also in sciences.

Uses, Products & Exploitation

The most valuable part of Proto-Proteans were their spinal fluid and urines. They had lots of applications and shows resistance to temperature changes. Other Proto-Protean parts had the potential to be valuable, yet they would spoil easily in higher temperature and would be very fragile to move.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Most proto-proteans would live in northern Naisha, unreachable caves near seas. A large portion would live in caves around the Dania Sea, Skana mountains and Haaqana archipelago. Most of the proto's prefered to live in the North. They also are the most sensitive specie to heat. Their minds would scramble and sometimes even secrete brain fluid from their ears.

Average Intelligence

They were unmatched in musical, logical-mathematical, spatial and intrapersonel intelligence.   Yet displayed low interpersonal and bodily-kinesthetic intelligence.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Their senses are very much human like, yet time to time they dream of events and people. Most of the time, these dreams are about simple events, yet rarely they see usefull things. Their perceptions are very sensible, they would be easily disturbed by sudden sounds, temperature shifts, wind... And so on. This is why, their Vergs would have it attuned climate and partitioned to personal preference.

Average Technological Level

Proto Alchemy: The secret alchemy which can alter the very existence. It was evolved from Royal-Protean alchemy, replicating their effects with more production and industry based methods. Yet with devastating results. They've become very careful after the Quelgannah disaster and destruction of Armice. They became more careful and slow in their advancement after.   Trial of Rebirth: Proto-Proteans tried to ressurect Royal-Protean species by means of extremely advance and complex Alchemy. A male and a female would copulate during a ritual in Avg Desert, in Quelgannah. She was supposed to give birth to a Royal Protean. It failed and both he and she turned into sand, following Armice. It opened a tear in the reflective veil and archanian waves from midden began to pour into existence. It was resealed after years of work by Proto-Proteans. Avgannah and neighboring areas was effected. But Quelgannah was reshaped.     Armice; Was an impassable gate to a pocket beneath existence(Pocket universe). It's purpose was to absorb potential harmful energy from the Trial Of Rebirth. Armice disintegrated and whatever left almost break the existence.

History

After Proto-Proteans left the Throne, it is said that they started to bicker among themselves. As a result, their group divided among themselves. The larger group went north to settle in Naisha, and the smaller group went west. They settled in the Skanan wilds. They would settle by building giant complex structures called Vergs. Vergs would be specifically attuned to its inhabitant considering the climate, humidity, insulation... They would be undetected from the outside. Its walls and ground would shift to its inhabitant's pleasure. Vergs were the defense of Proto-Proteans, as a stranger who found their way could walk until the end of their lives... But could never reach the Proto-Proteans or be found anywhere but an endless hole.   Naishan Proto-Proteans are a less misanthropic and more emotional type. From time to time, they'd trade with humans and half-bloods. Host Nomad's, and even join unity festivals. They accomplished technological advancements and harmonious living among themselves. They even started to develop houses like House Tohl, House Yohna, House Bariq, and House Alein. These houses would represent all Proto-Proteans to outsiders and act as diplomats or traders.   Skanan Proto-Proteans were extremely misanthropic and emotionless, yet they were known to create bonds with local animals. Skanans called them ghosts of the mist and made offerings to them. Sometimes, Skanan Proto's accepted and returned with their own gifts. From time to time, Skanan's would offer beautiful men and women to them as offers, which they'd bring to their caves, have ritualistic sexual relations with them, kill some of them, and release the rest; but almost in all cases, the offerings would not remember anything, they'd symbolize or would remember glimpses.   In time, with inner conflicts, Proto's started to scatter around the world and began to settle in new places. While almost all of them had some effect on their areas, Proto-Proteans in Quelgannah caused devastating and unintentional effects on the continent; They attempted an experiment ''Trial of Rebirth'' which failed and changed the continents and their surrounding areas' resources, survivability, population dynamics, flora, and fauna. Many believe local Insanites emerged as a result of the ''Trial of Rebirth''   Once they leave their caves, they'd travel to forage and find alchemical ingredients in various places. Hiding from humans and Half-bloods. Sometimes appearing to children.   Skanan Proto-Proteans were very protective of children of any specie. They could take orphans and raise them outside in their cave. Once the children learn to survive, proto's would leave them. Those children were called Broods. Broods would protect all Proteans from half-bloods.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Naishan Proto's, sees Nomads as harmless, stupid sibling of themselves. They don't love them, but they see their duty to preserve and help them.   They are mostly afraid of Half-Bloods, especially Dishans, Fire Dancers and Void walkers. Yet would deal with Na'thai Ithan's and Alchemy academy residences.   They see humans as harmless, sometimes pet them or play with them like dogs.   Skanan Protean's had so little relations with outsiders, mostly with half-blood shamans, abandoned or mistreated children. They might have life long relationships with animals; With goats, birds, sea creatures or mountain bears. They believe them to be great listeners and gentle creatures.

They conserve themselves at extreme places in complex cave systems they built under natural landscapes. They refer this cave systems as Vergs. Because of their extremely low birt-rate, they prefered to preserve and conserve their society, so their interractions with other species would be extremely limited and unclear to outsiders.
