Session 117.1: Turn The Page in Ducorde | World Anvil

Session 117.1: Turn The Page

Alchemy.

Less important than alchemy is learning that this place is known as Brasge University. Not as exciting, not as interesting, but knowing that is nice.
The translation is agonizing, because it's written in an old variant of the language you know that adds vowels that history has shown to be superfluous to normal communication, but you're able to put together more than a little from the opening.
Alternan Alchemy is the study of the Tacitmare. The Great Crystal links all peoples together through its benevolent wisdom, but how does its influence operate? How does it work? Alchemy is determining how it works. To replicate it, refine it, and master it, but more than anything else, understand it. To understand the Great Crystal, we have to understand the invisible force that fuels it and allows it to work in our lives. We have to understand Dark Matter.

To learn more about the Tacitmare, please turn to page 38.
To learn more about Dark Matter, please turn to page 72. Fade/Yves — Today at 9:12 PM

{Fade: too many vowels, the Homeric Greek story. (The study of the silent sea?)  Gonna totally turn to page 38.}

The Tacitmare is the core of the planet. Neither a superheated liquid or a solid core, it is instead an ocean of sentience. Religious teachings tell us that everyone who dies 'returns to the Planet,' and there is a great deal of truth to this idiom. The essence of life leaves the body upon death, returning to the planet's core to nurture it and fuel it, to keep the planet alive and capable of supporting other life. Maintaining balance is essential; you cannot add to it, and you cannot take it away. {this is presented as "of course you can't, no one would, that would be MONSTROUS" as opposed to anything with, y'know, a formula.} The Tacitmare has never been observed in person, which raises questions about its true existence -- after all, how can you know something is there without seeing it? Science is not built on blind faith. Dark Matter was not built on blind faith. We cannot give any credence to the theory that the Tacitmare is the green moon in the sky.

To learn more about Dark Matter, please turn to page 72.
To learn more about the green moon in the sky, turn to page 157.
To wonder where this alleged green moon is NOW, look up at the sky and scratch your head thoughtfully.

{Fade: I will turn to page 157!}

The green moon is not a figment of a mass hallucination, and more's the pity. A small green orb commonly seen in front of the moon, perhaps a fifth of its size. It never strays far from the moon. Never does it appear to be behind the moon; it always partially obscures it, or sits in the sky near it. It does not appear in any celestial records prior to 222 AE.
IT'S NOT THE TACITMARE
{the writer has an agenda}

{Fade: Alas, let's go to page 72. Yves is thinking it might well be the tacitmare.}
Alterna's greatest minds theorized that a single substance linked all life together, and that crystals were but one possible refinement of this material. Dark Matter became its name after early tests could never find the raw source of this material, and instead they were only able to detect it based on measuring other changes reflected by it in the post-experiment changes. Once they actually FOUND the material, the name Dark Matter stuck, despite the fact that other names were officially proposed and accepted. To learn more about the official names, turn to page 111. To learn more about the acquisition of Dark Matter, turn to page 81.

{Despite temptation... page 81.}
Dark Matter exists in Ducorde in large natural deposits, found underground in deep strata. Sometimes it can be found closer to the surface, in geologically-unstable locations. All of those locations were drained quickly, as a result of the need for knowledge, for understanding.
To learn about the sources of Dark Matter outside of Ducorde, turn to page 206.
To learn about how Dark Matter is created in nature, turn to page 34.

{Natural! 34!}
Dark Matter is formed when organic matter is exposed to a lot of pressure and a lot of heat overalong period of time. Measured in epochs, not in decades. Most of them are found at similar strata, pointing to times in the world's past where a lot of organic material suddenly became Dark Matter-able at the same time. (no new page numbers are given as options here)
{editor's note: I really hope "Dark Matter-able is the official word in the book.}

{Page 206!}
Alterna is not the only world. They know this. Every star in the sky is another world full of life. Their Astrologians learned this early on. With the knowledge of the Great Crystal and the guidance of Asura, Queen of the Eidolons, who is not native to Ducorde. She is a Guardian Force, she is an Esper, but originally Asura hailed from another world, where she and her kind were known as Eidolons. From these other worlds, more Dark Matter could be found.
To learn more about Asura, contact the Crystal Exarch.
To learn more about the Dark Matter on other worlds, turn to page 317.
To learn more about the Eidolons, turn to page 322.

{Page 322!}
The Eidolons put up token resistance, but did not have enough time to find any success against Alterna, especially once the Brahmastra was acquired. Eidolon Dark Matter exhibits more restorative properties than Alternan, and should be utilized in the chirurgeons' wards.
To learn more about Asura, contact the Crystal Exarch.
To learn more about the Dark Matter on other worlds, turn to page 317.

{Page 317, uh-oh.}
When a new test site has been located, the Orificium connects the Traverse to the site. Once the initial contact is made and the connection is secure, the PI authorizes the use of the Brahmastra. The resulting Dark Matter is then transported to the Vault for catalogue entry.

{Hm. Page 111, I think that's the last one I haven't read that's been mentioned?}

Later research broke the terms out more: the concept of life, of being alive, was vita, and the concept of souls was anima.
To learn about the results of the experiments using vita, turn to page 33.
To learn about the results of the experiments using anima, turn to page 51.

(...51.)
A collection of anima, using the Tacitmare Process, turns into... nothing.  There have been no results as of the time of writing, 957 AE. The Rynic Condenser continues in the lowest levels of the Palamecia.
To learn more about the Palamecia, turn to page 53.

(Page 53.)
The Palamecia is the expansive test facility operated by Brasge University. It is six hundred feet below sea level in a secure and protected vault that could survive a meteor impact, the book proudly states. There experiments can continue with no human oversight, continuing in perpetuity. It can be accessed from the aerodrome's central elevator.

(page 33.)  A collection of vita, using the Tacitmare Process, turns into Dark Matter.

{final notes: Fade: Hm. Are there any page references I haven't followed now?
Matt: I believe you've gotten them all!  (The Tacitmare Process is just detailing the heat/pressure/time breakdown.)}
