Humans

The recorded history of the Alternan Empire says a great many things about humans. Humans held the role of Emperor of Alterna up through the collapse, with the last recorded ruler being Empress Smyrna. Humans also held the role of Viceroy in each of the territories, as well as many other important positions in the Empire’s hierarchy, from judges to commanders, from lords to ladies. When the Empire collapsed after the loss of the Great Crystal, it was generally assumed that humans would remain the primary controllers of the territories, with the most vocal faction of humans being the Mysidian Sages within Saron. To support their claim, they presented years of sealed journals kept by the Viceroys of Saron, full of histories that the greater world feared lost in the Empire’s crumble. In what would be the start of a trend, humans found out much of their history was wrong.   Faced with the public revelation that their role in history was vastly overstated, the Mysidian Sages did three things that came to define the view the rest of the world had of them.   First, they got upset. Shouting matches, the digging in of heels, the protests, the proclamations, the loud sharing of frustrations with anyone that happened to be nearby. The stories claim that a duel to the death was proposed and withdrawn in the same sentence.   After their volatile and passionate emotions had cooled, they asked why. A week passed, with all able hands in use poring over surviving texts, reading the old journals, hotly debating the choice of particular words, referencing public record to compare it to the new private record.   Once they had their answers, they set out to make things right. Wrongs had been done to a great many people under the rule of the Alternan Empire, wrongs that had been hidden under the veil of human supremacy. Faced with the knowledge of what had come before, and with speculation on why, humans set out working in the present to better the future. ‘ Humans are said to be quick to anger but quicker to forgive. The lessons of the Alternan fall have instilled a cultural need to fix things, be that through establishing charities, working as doctors and nurses, or spending two months trying to better a crop rotation program without having any of the knowledge needed to actually do that.   Humans range in height from five to seven feet for adults, with a wide variance on skin tone and body frames. Hairstyles are often eye-catching, change rapidly with the years, and come in all the colors of the rainbow. While fashion is a constantly changing thing, asymmetrical clothing never truly goes out of style.
