Caerwyn

The south edge of Serica, Caerwyn is a beautiful land of rolling hills, endless plains, and brave warriors, a land of legends and an obsession with heroism. Budding adventurers travel from far and wide to meet with and learn from heroes of the past, with everyone chasing one goal; to go down in history.

Government

Caerwyn is ruled by the Kishin, the current leader of the Paragons. The Paragons are a worldwide organization, devoted to training the finest representations of personhood throughout Ducorde. Paragon academies accept thousands of students each year across the two continents, training them in a wide variety of vocations and skills. One member from each class is approached after graduation to receive training in a specific Job in Caerwyn, though sometimes they are trained is a Job they showed no interest or aptitude for during their time at the Academy. Though the reasons are often inscrutable, receiving this training is a huge honor, and carries with it the potential to secure generations of one’s family’s needs.   The current Kishin is Lenore Hikaru, a worldwide sensation said to be the world’s finest singer. She rarely is within Caerwyn’s borders, as the twenty-seven-year-old singer is almost always on tour.

History

Caerwyn was founded in 801 AY, the last of the Alternan city-states to officially be formed. Nestled in the rolling fields of Serica, Caerwyn is less a massive metropolis and more a collection of palatial estates dotting the path of the Alternan Rails. Soldiers, scientists, nobles, and other people of renown within Alterna were granted land of their own far from the capital when they retired, ensuring they and their families would be well cared for.   This practice was in place for centuries before Xing Wu, the Arena Champion who had wowed audiences for an unparalleled forty-seven years, retired to the far distant fields but still wanted her opinions known in the capital. Other legends of Alterna, long since retired but not forgotten, rallied under her cause to officially form Caerwyn as a city-state, gaining the voices they wanted.   Caerwyn is an invitation-only country. During the Alternan Empire’s reign, only those chosen by the Emperor were allowed to live within its borders. Since the fall, the country’s leader decides who is allowed to live in the country. Once invited, ten generations of a family are allowed to reside in Caerwyn, with the country providing for every need. After ten generations, the descendants are all kindly asked to leave, unless a member of the family has done something to warrant another induction in the meantime. It is not uncommon for eleventh-generation cousins to be separated due to this practice, as one earns another few lifetimes of admission while the other does not.

Architecture

Caerwyn towns are named for heroes, and each town is built around a train station. Each station supports four to eight estates, allowing that many sets of extended families to live in luxury. Each station has luxurious amenities available for travelers, though there are no inns or hotels in Caerwyn; it is expected that anyone visiting has a patron or friend, and every estate has multiple guest cottages available, sometimes dozens or more.
