War of the Gods
The story of how much of the planets scars and the origins of some of its most otherworldly locations all owe their origins to the same thing. A great 2000 year long war between the divine beings and the old gods (Hakkar).
Summary
Thousands of years ago the gods had an epic and sprawling war across the planet Drymaterra, not only ripping apart her landscape, but leaving long lingering scars and corruption long after their gone. The gods battled against their evil counterparts and the wild gods, or old gods, of Drymaterra itself. These deities like their divine counter are all as beyond death as the gods themselves, so war as they did, it only resulted in the distruction of the plant and the loss of mortal lives.
The war of the gods came to it's conclusion when the mortal races aligned with a few the gods who saw more value in protecting the mortal races then the seemingly endless struggle of the gods against the old gods and Hakkar.
Avandra decived the gods of good to hide what was happening. H'Espire enlightened the mortal races on how to manipulate magics on the scale of the gods. Melora provided resources to build the cradles used to do this, and Bahamut provided his power to accomplish their goal.
Spread
Ancient history is not well spread, details about this war are all lost, and those who know of it are limited to historians.
Cultural Reception
The war was devastating the the mortal races, and even after it's end the vacuum left in the absences of the gods didn't end all the fighting for the mortal races, and to this day the racism between parties on either side, such as Dragon Born hating Tieflings, and Goblins hating everyone, still remains and lingers. Though the source of these feelings has been lost to all but the most schooled historians.
In Literature
mention of this event is common and can be found in many books along with the names of the Gods who supposedly helped the mortals with constructing the cradle that keeps the divine beings from interacting /directly/ with the mortal realm without a meaningful connection to the individual or another means of communication.
In Art
Elven artists have long depicted the war of the gods, these depictions are almost exclusively located in ruins or in Art Halls in Elven cities
Date of First Recording
Earliest Records are Elven and almost 3000 years old.
