Session 9

General Summary

After having confronted Newt about supposedly arriving in Varoona Proper at the same time Erwin did, Diavolo highly encouraged Newt and Moira to join him for a drink. Through Moira's telepathic link, some rapid-fire panic was exchanged. Newt seemed to successfully be able to lie to his boss, but... to prove that Newt is keeping up with the bounty hunting game, Volo has demanded Erwin be delivered to him within 10 days.   The now mildly stressed duo walked through the streets of Varoona, eventually reaching the conclusion that they should really talk to Rani. They headed back to Cali's cabana...   ...while Rani enjoyed the performances at the Siren's College of Bards. However, after having her fill of music, comedy, and dramatic readings, she climbed atop the Temple of Varoona and fell asleep with a beautiful view of the moonlight glimmering off of Goddess Bay.   Having finally recovered from their nasty hangovers, Sidon and Portia went to grab a bite to eat, deciding to go to the closest eater: Bert's Snails. After waiting nearly 2 hours in the obnoxiously long line, Sidon ordered the entire menu, most of it consisting of the highly coveted Purple Koaz Snail. There was suddenly three Portias... then six... and then the inside of the eater turned icy cold and he was eating snails with a yeti.   When Newt and Moira arrived at Cali's cabana to find Rani absent, the Deep End decided another night of partying and drinking at the Blue End Galleon was appropriate: booty short edition. Upon arriving, the party went straight for the fish bowls. Sidon, still reeling from the hallucinogenic effects of the snails found himself in rather odd company and attempted to catch some "fish" swimming in the fish bowls. The Widow set a bad example for the young ones to follow in terms of drinking. Moira and Newt had very different opinions on whether a certain tall blue lizard should show up.

As the night began to wind down, the party - all plastered - eventually began making their way "home", until they eventually realized Moira was missing. In an attempt to reach the cool bird, Moira ended up sitting hugging the trunk, remaining there even after the bird had landed on her shoulder seemingly curious.    Having taken to the sky, Newt began spinning and screaming for Moira. Eventually, he caught sight of her... along with Diavolo, who seemed to have found her first. Attempting to be "cool", Moira insisted that she could be a great bounty hunter and that she'd like to bounty hunt Volo. Newt announced his arrival by loudly screaming "MOIRA NO". In a rather chivalrous fashion, Diavolo escorted the two drunk twenty-year olds back to Cali's cabana.

The Widow led the rest of the party to the beach, coming to the conclusion that Moira must have somehow drowned... again. Sidon shed his skin and revealed that he's been a fish underneath all along. After some searching in vain, Cali eventually led them back to her place.   Moira awoke to find Rani watching her sleep. Sign language was exchanged, but Moira forgot her lessons. Not quite remembering everything, but feeling like she had let Newt down in some way, Moira fled to hide. The rest of the party had a rousing discussion on what to do with Erwin. It was decided that murdering Volo was not an option - but perhaps the bird was. Yet another discussion was had about everyone's relationship with gods... and the oddity that appears to be The Widow.   The discussion of the merits of mercy killing Erwin (send a letter to his family? Drug him?) was interrupted by a knock on the door. Rani greeted Volo who had come to pick up Moira as she had invited him to brunch. After finding Moira hidden a way - as Newt and The Widow proceeded to whisper yell for Moira around the house - Rani consoled Moira and gave her a new bee friend. Feeling a bit bitter, Moira rejected - but then didn't reject - Volo, who seemed to take it well.   Rani stopped by the Temple to speak with the High Priestess. After signing the NDA, Thalassa provided what information she could about the map. She mentioned that the Old Temple of Varoona was under the jurisdiction of King Dorephan of Sotto Varoona. She also pointed out the location of the Old Temple of Caliban and cautioned that the Old Temple of Carmenthia has been lost for many centuries, though an expedition team is attempting to rediscover its location. Regarding the diary, she recognized the cover as having the symbol of Judas' priesthood, specifically his priestesses. She requested permission to pass along some information to a more knowledgeable source: one of High Lord Valdove's daughters.   The party took a nice trip to the theater, watching a splendid performance of traditional Lark'Hal and Varoonan dancers. The highlight, however, was the group of sword dancers led by a fire genasi, who later introduced himself as Ezra to Rani after the show. The two arranged to have a dancing lesson the following afternoon (as well as acquiring bulk paints).   Rani and Moira went to the Siren's College to conduct some research. Rani located a couple of books of interest. The first discussed draconic lineages in the royal families of Lark'Hal. The second documented the religious legends and depictions of Lark through the years. The third documented some diseases, one of which appeared to be caused by "crazed draconics".    The rest of the party thought it best to go to Carmine's. After an hour of sipping some low alcohol content beverages and eating some food, Diavolo made his way into the den of bounty hunters. Volo appeared to recognize The Widow, claiming its an interesting moniker he's chosen to give himself. Newt then recounted his enter journey after leaving Ah'Shal to "find himself" to Volo, who listened intently. Moira and Rani eventually joined the group. Volo offered some religious advice: talking to the gods often isn't everything. Sometimes you just need to find a connection.    With some encouragement (?) from the party (via insect charades, telepathic links, and not so subtle hand gestures), Moira re-invited Volo out to brunch. As he made to leave, she then offered him some of the cookies she made that morning.   Deciding that a third night in a row of heavy drinking was perhaps not the best choice, the Deep End stayed in for the evening. The topic of Erwin came up again. Newt is just happy that everyone is okay with killing him.   On the 25th, Bella Five presented the finished tattoo sketches to the party members who requested one. As Bella Five entered a seemingly trance-light state - hair floating behind her and eyes glowing - she began Rani's tattoo. Diavolo made his appearance then, picking up Moira for their brunch "date".   Well, brunch and a trip to the gladiator ring... a totally normal first "date", right?
