Makaela the Elf Friend Myth in Dremlia [Old] | World Anvil

Makaela the Elf Friend

Summary

An old Sylvan tale, tells of a Human woman named Makaela who sheltered the persecuted people during the Great Autumn, the time when many Elves were being killed at the hands of the Humans. Makaela the Elf Friend, as she would be called hid hundreds of Elves from the wrath of her kin, and helped transport them to safety. To this day, the Sylvans remember Makaela the Elf Friend as the best of the Humans, and what the Humans could be in the best of times, renewing their belief in the possibility for Human-Elf peace.

Historical Basis

Some scholars doubt the historicity of Makaela the Elf Friend. While there are records of some Humans taking pity on the persecuted Sylvan Elves, there is no hard evidence of a singular Human who headed the efforts to bring the Elves to safety. The prevailing theory is that the Elf Friend was a conglomeration of many different Humans that were allies to the Elves, or perhaps 'Makaela the Elf Friend" was simply a title for the effort as a whole. The specifics are unknown but with tales of Makaela the Elf Friend spanning over a century, it is unlikely that all of these stories could be attributed to a singular person.

Cultural Reception

To this day the Elven term, Makaela'visren, meaning "friend of Makaela", is used to denote a Human who is a known companion to the Elves amongst the Sylvan people.
