One day the sun and moons disappeared behind roiling clouds. Bands of heavy mists appeared cordoning off the lands, making travel between some areas seemingly impossible.

The next day avatars of the Gods manifested and spirited away the priesthoods of the progenitors leaving their temples empty.

Now those who attempt to travel through the mists are rarely if ever seen again. Three great vortexes have now appeared; one on land, one in the sea, and one in the air, in each of the 30 Drelms. These vortexes activate one week every month acting as portals to other lands. Sightings of those of fey and shadow are also on the increase.
