Heugan (HYOO-gan)

Thia's Day, 40 Leaqu 932 CE
Heugan is Carbinosia's leading producer of corkwood. Being located in the southern reaches of a tropical rain forest, Heugan is subject to an extremely rainy wet season, during which the production of cork is halted. Cork harvesting and drying is resumed in the beginning of the dry season, and continues until the next wet one. Overall, cork is produced for roughly six out of ten months in the year. Heugan alone is responsible for producing sixty-five percent of Carbinosia's cork.

    Defences

The city center of Heugan is surrounded by a stone-and-mortar wall. This wall is roughly 7 meters high, but is not thick enough to stand on.

    Industry & Trade

Heugan's primary industry is cork-making. The population also grows crops, primarily of grains like chia and quinoa, and of vegetables like potatoes. They also raise chickens to a lesser degree.

There is a nearby quarry for marble and mine for gold. Both the quarry and the mine employ residents of Heugan as well as the residents of smaller towns.

    Architecture

The primary building style utilized in Heugan relies heavily on wood. Locally harvested elm makes up the framework of their one-to-two-story houses, and more elm is used for the wall paneling and the floors of any layers above the ground. Windows rarely have glass panes, but will have screens of woven grass installed. Roofs typically use wooden shingles.

    Natural Resources

Heugan is surrounded by lush forests full of cork, elm, mahogany, teak, and marblewood. The large lake to the south provides ample fresh water and is full of clams and fish. Just outside the city, fields full of fertile soil can be found.
