Kaikon blowing horn

Though no real market for them exists, blowing horns made out of kaikon horns are known to exist. Creation of them is significantly more difficult than that of most, as kaikon horns are part of their skull, and thus made entirely of bone instead of keratin like typical horns. As such, they must be carefully separated from the rest of the skull, and cleaned out properly or risk transmission of disease.   When done properly, a kaikon blowing horn can be used to perfectly mimic kaikon calls. They are used sometimes in theater, or for large musical performances, but only rarely, as most find their sound too haunting, and never near the areas where kaikons actually live. More locally, kaikon blowing horns can be used to call kaikons near once's location, using their distress call. As these kaikons come to the rescue of a fellow kaikon, however, they will viciously attack anyone near... including the person who called for them in the first place.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

Kaikon blowing horns are actually rather simple creations, as nature has already done all the work in creating it. The horn, more accurately a cranial crest, already has all the passages inside it though which the air will run, and which create the signature sound of a kaikon's howl. All one has to do is clean out the connecting sides, and make it easier for a dragon to blow into it.

Manufacturing process

Depending on the state of the horn when it is acquired, and how it is passed to the one who will make it into a blowing horn. Flesh might need to be removed, the horn thoroughly cleaned of all tissues and/or dirt. The horn may need to be removed from the skull. And, commonly, a mouthpiece is attached to one end, to allow dragons to use it more easily.
