New Raigón City Settlement in Dragon World | World Anvil

New Raigón City (N-oo R-eye-go-n Sih-tee)

The capital city of the Republic of Raigón. It is located within the Great Raigónian Greens, serving as a descendant city to the castle town of Raigón City, known after its abandonment as Old Raigón. It is one of the biggest cities within the realm of Gaèahallen, being a major center of commerce, as well as being the main drive of artistic expression during the Second Age of Prosperity, gaining another nickname, the City of Legends.

Demographics

By the Age of Heroes, it is 40% Húdas, 20% Eilfós, 15% Shaqakla, 14% Ahnimas, 10% Gá'anémas, and 1% Drágós.

Government

As is with most settlements underneath the flag of the New Raigónian Congress, all settlements are run by a Governor, a Lawmaster, and a Chief Guard aid.   Depending on the size and population of the city, a High Legislator can be appointed to lighten the load of the law system for the Lawmaster. Additionally, the Law Master can elect two High Judges. The High Legislator can elect a Legislative Council (one Legislator per 250 citizens). The Chief Guard can elect Captains (one Captain per 100 Guardsmen). However, settlements with less than 20,000 citizens can instead elect a Deputy Guard.   However, the New Raigonian Congress takes the place of these roles.
  • The President acts in place of the normal Governor.
  • The Grand Guard acts in place of a Chief Guard with a Great Deputy at their side and several High Captains under their command.
  • The Grand Judge acts in place of a Law Master and two Great Judges by their side.
  • Finally, the Grand Legislator acts in place of a High Legislator, with 30 Councilmen by their side.
Taxation is the same for all settlements as well. As per the agreement between the Shimmering Circles and the New Raigónian Congress, taxes are to be collected on the 1st of every month/season in a monetary form. If there is nothing of monetary value to be given for taxes on the 1st of the month, the taxpayer in question has until the morning of the 8th to bring in some form of monetary taxation. Otherwise, the Shimmering Circles will send at least 2 of their accepted monks to collect what has been owed, whether it be monetary or in raw form.   Specifically for New Raigon, all the taxes of their nation are kept by the Grand Treasurer of the nation, who pays the partition to the Shimmering Circles directly through a highly guarded transaction on the Goldmouth Isle within the northern side of the Endraminan Sea, keeping a 1/4 of the taxes to help run the state.

Defences

The main lines of defense are the Palm Towers, a set of towards that are sent around the city, made to erect impenetrable walls of arcane energy to create a dome around the whole city.   There are also the Alabaster Barracks, found within the Bigwalk District, which hold many of the weapon stock that the Guardsmen and Mighty Wardens may have to use to defend this capital.   Another means of guarding the city lies with the Hall of Hands within the Greenes, where all 16 of the Official Monastic Styles are taught, housing over 1,000 monks.

Districts

The city is split into 6 Districts.   The Bends is the outermost district of the city, filled with project-type homes and a semi-rural community. It was made more recently due to a lack of space within the city.   The Yards is the industrial district of the city located towards the northwest, filled with work yards, storage facilities, and many other kinds of workshops. These were originally housed within the Bigwalk District, but many of them were moved due to the city wanting to keep the integrity of its tourism.   The Greenes is the more natural district of the city located towards the east, containing a plethora of farming land, park spaces, and Shaqakla and Eilfó-styled treehouses. It was created for many of the non-civilization-friendly aspects of the Great Raigónian Greenes.   The Commons is the biggest district that contains most of the housing for the city. There aren't many singular houses here. Instead, there are apartment-type buildings built all throughout the district. Though, the nicer side of the district has the occasional singular house.   The Bigwalk is the business and tourism district of the city, containing most of the attractions that people come to see worldwide, from the Hall of Legends to the Sky-Line Theater.   The Heights is the high-end side of the city, located in the highest place in the city. It also houses many of the dignitary offices, the Calanash Observatory, and the People's Stronghold, which is the center building where the Raigónian Congress holds many of its meetings.
