Kingdom of Krevoria

The Kingdom of Krevoria is a land shaped by its harsh environment and the resilient spirit of its people. The inhabitants of Krevoria, known as Krevorians, are a proud and hardy people, their culture forged in the fires of adversity and honed by the biting cold of the unforgiving north. Krevorian culture is heavily influenced by its medieval Scandinavian and Russian roots, with elements of the ancient Torathi barbarian tribes still present in their customs and traditions. Krevorians value strength, resilience, and cunning, traits that have allowed them to survive and thrive in their inhospitable homeland.   The attire of the Krevorians reflects the practical demands of their environment. They wear thick furs, wool, and leather to protect themselves from the biting cold, with utilitarian designs prioritizing warmth and durability. Their clothing often features intricate embroidery and patterns inspired by their ancestral heritage, with motifs of bears, wolves, and other northern wildlife woven into their garments.   Daily life in Krevoria revolves around the struggle to survive in the harsh conditions of the north. The majority of the population are subsistence farmers and hunters, eking out a living from the sparse arable land and the abundant game that roams the northern plains and boreal tundras. The people are also skilled craftspeople, producing high-quality metalwork and textiles using the resources at their disposal, such as Rime Salt and the furs and hides of the northern animals.   Despite the harshness of their environment, the Krevorians are a tight-knit and fiercely loyal people. Communities are organized around a central village or town, with each family group contributing to the overall well-being of their community through their skills and labor. The people gather in grand halls for feasts and celebrations, where they share stories, music, and dance, reinforcing their bonds and honoring their heritage.   In the Kingdom of Krevoria, superstitions and old beliefs still hold sway, and the people are deeply spiritual. The ancient gods of the Torathi barbarians have given way to new deities, but the old rituals and practices are still observed. Magic is regarded with caution, and those who wield it are both respected and feared. The Krevorians believe that their ancestors' spirits watch over them, guiding them and protecting them from the dangers that lurk in the shadowy depths of the northern forests and mountains.   Trade and commerce play a vital role in Krevorian society, with the mining of Rime Salt being the primary source of income for the kingdom. This valuable resource is sought after by foreign merchants, who brave the treacherous terrain and the ever-present threat of barbarian tribes to secure their share of the magical ore. The Krevorian people are no strangers to conflict, and their warriors are known for their ferocity and skill in battle. Clashes with the barbarian tribes are not uncommon, as the ever-expanding mining operations encroach on their ancestral lands, leading to a precarious balance between trade and security.  

A Crown of Ice:

The capital of Krevoria, Icecrown, is a testament to the resilience and skill of its people. Located at the heart of the kingdom, Icecrown is a city built on the edge of a glacial lake, surrounded by towering snow-capped mountains that act as a natural fortress. The city's layout is a mix of concentric circles and radial streets, with the imposing royal castle at its center and the city's districts radiating outward. The city is divided into several districts, each with its unique character and function, such as the artisan's quarter, the market district, and the residential area. The topography of Icecrown is defined by the lake and the surrounding mountains, with the city built on multiple levels that ascend from the water's edge. The city's streets and buildings are made of locally quarried stone, imbued with a subtle blue hue that reflects the icy landscape. The architecture is reminiscent of medieval Russian and Scandinavian styles, with steeply pitched roofs, sturdy walls, and intricately carved wooden accents. The buildings are adorned with elaborate ironwork, reflecting the Krevorian mastery of metallurgy and their reverence for Tellvein, the Night Father.   The aesthetic of the city is one of rugged beauty, with the stark contrast of the blue stone buildings against the white snow and ice creating a visually striking landscape. The city's fashion reflects the practical demands of the harsh environment, with warm furs, wool, and leather clothing adorned with intricate embroidery and patterns inspired by their ancestral heritage and their devotion to Tellvein.   As one walks through the streets of Icecrown, they are greeted by the sights, sounds, and smells of a bustling city. The air is crisp and tinged with the scent of woodsmoke, as the inhabitants stoke their hearths to ward off the biting cold. The sounds of craftsmen at work echo through the streets, as they forge weapons, tools, and trinkets in devotion to Tellvein. The city's markets are a cacophony of voices, as merchants from near and far haggle over the price of Rime Salt, furs, and other valuable resources.   The ruling family of Krevoria, House Fostelm, resides within the royal castle at the heart of Icecrown. The castle is a grand and imposing structure made of the same blue stone as the rest of the city, with towering walls and turrets that seem to touch the sky. The Fostelm family has ruled Krevoria for generations, their lineage tracing back to the ancient Torathi barbarian tribes and the fallen kingdom of Vynadel. They are known for their resilience and toughness, qualities that are highly regarded in Krevorian society.   House Fostelm is deeply devoted to Tellvein, the Night Father, and his teachings permeate every aspect of their rule. The royal family leads by example, demonstrating their commitment to the protection and well-being of their people through their actions and decisions. They are patrons of the arts and crafts, encouraging the growth and development of the kingdom's artisans and supporting the production of finely crafted weapons, tools, and armor imbued with the blessings of Tellvein.   Icecrown, the capital city of Krevoria, is a sprawling metropolis built upon the frigid lands of the north. Drawing upon the rich cultural heritage and the influence of Tellvein, the Night Father, Icecrown is a city of stunning architecture, bustling markets, and political intrigue. The city is divided into several districts, each with its own unique characteristics, points of interest, and internal conflicts.   The Citadel Ward: At the heart of Icecrown lies the Citadel District, home to the ruling family's palace and the seat of power in Krevoria. The majestic palace, Featuring elements of Scandinavian stave churches and Russian onion domes, the Royal Quarter boasts the opulent palace of the ruling family. The intricate wooden carvings on the palace facade are reminiscent of Norse longhouses, while the gilded domes take inspiration from the grandeur of Russian architecture. Noble residences, lavishly adorned with Kievan Rus-style patterns and imposing Scandinavian gables, surround the palace. The power struggles among the nobility are palpable, as they constantly vie for the ruling family's favor and influence.   The Slum Ward: Located on the outskirts of Icecrown, the Slums are home to the city's poorest and most vulnerable citizens. Crime is rampant, and many residents turn to thievery, smuggling, or worse to survive. However, a sense of community persists among the inhabitants, with many looking out for one another in these harsh conditions. Recently a ruthless gang leader has seized control of the district, demanding protection money from the already struggling residents and clashing with rival gangs for territory.   The Garrison Ward: The Garrison Ward is home to Icecrown's military and defense forces, with barracks, training grounds, and armories. While there is no ice wall surrounding the city, the district is heavily fortified, with watchtowers and sturdy gates that protect the city from external threats. Rumors that a faction within the military is conspiring to stage a coup, believing that the ruling family is weak and that a more militaristic government is needed to secure Icecrown's future.   The Spiritual Ward: The Spiritual Ward is home to a stunning array of religious buildings. The central temple is reminiscent of a Russian cathedral, featuring ornate onion domes, frescoes, and curved gables. In contrast, smaller temples and shrines display influences from Viking stave churches, with their distinctive tiered roofs and carved wooden pillars. The tensions within the religious community are evident, as disputes over sacred texts and worship practices divide the clergy and their followers.   Old Town: A bustling hub of activity, serving as the Trade Quarters and personal houses. The district is packed with markets and merchant stalls nestled within a maze of narrow streets. The area incorporates elements of Hanseatic and Novgorod trading centers, with timber-framed buildings and warehouses boasting wide gables and intricate carvings. Amid the lively atmosphere, rival merchants engage in fierce competition, resorting to sabotage and other underhanded tactics to gain an advantage in the marketplace.   The Craftsman's Enclave: The Craftsman's Enclave is a testament to the skill of Icecrown's artisans, with workshops and studios showcasing the finest examples of Scandinavian and Russian craftsmanship. The district features a mix of Norse-inspired longhouses and Russian izbas, with their sloping roofs and ornately carved window frames. Aspiring artisans train in prestigious academies, unaware that a secretive organization is infiltrating the artisan community to further its own sinister agenda.  

Regions:

  Westervik Coast: The Westervik Coast is characterized by a rugged shoreline with steep cliffs plunging into the sea. Dense boreal forests cover the landscape, and fishing villages dot the coastline, taking advantage of the abundant fish and marine life. Unique to this region are the Krusk Whales, colossal marine creatures that surface only during specific seasons, and the Shore Spider, large arachnid predators that creates ambush traps on the shorelines.   Ostrovy Plains: The Ostrovy Plains mark the eastern border, featuring vast, rolling plains with wide rivers meandering through the landscape. These fertile lands are home to numerous agricultural settlements that supply the kingdom with grains, vegetables, and livestock. The region hosts the majestic Stormhorn Elk, a massive creature with impressive antlers that generate thunderous sounds when clashing, often mistaken for distant thunder.   Sørfjell Peaks: The Sørfjell Peaks dominate the southern region, featuring towering mountain ranges with snow-capped peaks, high plateaus, steep valleys, and glacial lakes. Mountain-dwelling wildlife, such as the Winter Gryphon, thrives in this harsh environment. The Winter Gryphon is a majestic creature with crystalline feathers that refract light, creating a dazzling display as it soars through the sky.   Nordryn Tundra: The Nordryn Tundra borders the north, with a diverse landscape of dense coniferous forests and expansive tundra. The frigid temperatures and harsh climate create a challenging environment for its inhabitants. The region is home to the elusive Icefoot Fox, a creature with pure white fur that has magical properties, making it invisible in snowy landscapes.

Clan Fujin:

The goblins of Clan Fujin, guided by the teachings of the Kami-do religion, have built a harmonious and spiritual society in the Sørfjell Peaks. Their unique dwellings are designed to blend seamlessly with the natural environment, reflecting their deep respect for the land and its resources. The homes are constructed from local stone and timber, with sloping roofs that bear the weight of heavy snowfall. Inside, the living spaces are centered around a hearth for warmth and communal gatherings. Each home has a dedicated shrine to honor the kami, the spirits of nature and the elements, where the goblins make offerings of food, drink, and incense. These shrines symbolize the importance of the Kami-do religion in their daily lives and their connection to the natural world.   Clan Fujin's Way of Life with Kami-do Influence   Living in the Sørfjell Peaks, the goblins of Clan Fujin have adapted their way of life to align with the teachings of the Kami-do faith. They revere the spirits of nature and the elements, seeking harmony with their environment. Hunting, foraging, and cultivating crops are performed with deep respect for the land, following traditions and taboos to ensure the sustainability of their resources.   Kami-do monks hold a revered position within Clan Fujin, serving as spiritual leaders and guides for the community. They lead daily prayer and meditation sessions, perform blessings and purification rites, and preside over important ceremonies such as weddings and funerals. These monks are also skilled in the art of combat, using their mastery of muscle magic to protect their communities and uphold the values of their faith.   The Giant Hawks and Travel with Kami-do Influence   The goblins of Clan Fujin have a unique bond with the Giant Hawks native to the Sørfjell Peaks, which they view as sacred creatures connected to the kami. The relationship between the goblins and the Giant Hawks is founded on mutual respect and understanding. Through careful training, the goblins have developed a system of aerial travel that allows them to traverse the mountain range with ease and to honor the kami of the skies.   The Giant Hawks are both revered and utilized by the goblins for their prowess in the air. They are often depicted in Clan Fujin's art and craftsmanship, symbolizing their deep connection to the Kami-do religion and the spirits of nature. Warriors and scouts have a particularly strong bond with these birds, using their aerial advantage to survey the land, communicate with other settlements, and defend their territory from potential threats.   The primary village of Clan Fujin is called Kazegakure, nestled high in the Sørfjell Peaks. The village is hidden away from the world, accessible only through treacherous mountain paths that deter all but the most determined of visitors. Kazegakure is built on a series of tiered plateaus, with stone and timber structures hugging the mountain's contours, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. The village's design is a testament to the goblins' deep connection with the kami and their environment. Buildings are made from locally sourced materials, with green roofs that blend into the landscape and reduce the environmental impact. The architecture is characterized by sweeping curves, mimicking the shape of the wind, while intricately carved symbols of the kami adorn the walls and doorways.   At the heart of Kazegakure lies the Temple of the Four Winds, a magnificent structure dedicated to the worship of the kami of wind, lightning, and rain. The temple is a feat of goblin engineering, with soaring stone pillars supporting a vast, domed roof, allowing the natural elements to enter the sacred space.   The goblins of Clan Fujin wear clothing made from natural fibers, dyed in earthy tones, reflecting their reverence for nature. Their garments are adorned with intricate embroidery and patterns that symbolize the elements and the kami, and many wear talismans or charms made from feathers, stones, and other natural materials.   Some important characters in Kazegakure include:   Elder Yorihiro: The wise and venerable leader of Clan Fujin, Elder Yorihiro has guided the village for decades. He is an accomplished Kami-do monk and a master of muscle magic, often sought out for his wisdom and spiritual insight.   Haruko the Stormcaller: A powerful warrior and skilled in the art of controlling the wind and weather, Haruko is fiercely protective of her people and their secluded way of life. She leads a group of elite warriors known as the Windwalkers, who patrol the mountains and defend Kazegakure from any threats.   Kenji, the Giant Hawk Tamer: Kenji is a young but highly skilled tamer of Giant Hawks, responsible for training these magnificent creatures to carry goblins and their cargo across the mountains. Kenji shares a deep bond with his own Giant Hawk, Tsubasa, who is known for her exceptional speed and agility.   The goblins of Clan Fujin have long lived in isolation, largely removed from the societies of humans and other races. This reclusion is a result of their dedication to their faith and their desire to preserve their unique way of life. Visitors from outside the clan are extremely rare, and those who do manage to find their way to Kazegakure are met with a mixture of curiosity and caution.   The village has a long history of self-sufficiency and independence, with its inhabitants relying on their mastery of the elements and their deep connection to the kami to survive in their harsh mountain home. While they remain reclusive, the goblins of Clan Fujin are proud of their culture and their unique connection to the world of spirits, and they are determined to preserve their sacred traditions for generations to come.
