Snow Fair

Demographics

Snow Fair is the closest city to Port Barrowdell, and as such, the city's demographic is comprised of a wider variety than most settlements found in Naldtocs. On the surface, Snow Fair appears to be mainly comprised of Dwarves, however under the surface, other races like halflings, goblins, and even the occasional elf can be found here. The city is rumored to be a place of great culture, and those coming off the boats at Port Barrowdell may make their way to Snow Fair to take in the sights. The city has some of the best painters and artisans, people who take their craft very seriously, and enjoy putting flare into their works.

Government

Snow Fair is a very loose and care free town. However Snow Fair has some extreme copyright laws, where if a design or craft is stolen, for the purpose of re-selling, then the punishment is jail time. The town is also known to host festivals and art exhibits, and as such, a small tax is placed for entry on these events to help keep the town afloat.

Defences

The town has a small supply of guards to protect its inhabitants. The town is surrounded by a 15 foot wooden wall to help defend against any monstrosities and beasts that wander too close for comfort. Snow Fair is also near Frost Giant territory, and even though there is a mutual understanding between the town and the giants to not attack each other, that doesn't stop the people from having a general sense of unease. From time to time, the town will donate some livestock and well crafted statues as a sign of good faith to help keep the Giants docile.

Industry & Trade

The town, much like Reywick and Port Barrowdell, rely on travel to fund their economy. There are a few saw mills that gather and refine trees from the surrounding forest, but this is done very sparingly, as it would be unwise to encroach on Frost Giant Territory. Other than that, most stores are art related and anyone looking to make or buy art will be well accommodated here. This ranges from costumes being weaved, herbalists brewing different paints, and bards offering their musical services.

Infrastructure

One of the crowning achievements of the city, and a well known landmark of those travelling to Snow Fair, is the Shimmering Sheet. The Shimmer Sheet is a circular courtyard in the center of town, whose ground is of a reflective and beautiful icy floor. It seems to be some sort of reinforced mirror that spans the entire court. The Shimmering Sheet is where most acting and paintings are shown off, as this area is used to emphasize art. In a sense, this courtyard allows people to see these works of art from a different angle, giving a larger sense of appreciation for them.

Assets

Many stores in Snow Fair can accommodate one's desire of expression. Painter supplies, costumes, and instruments can be found in many of the shops in town.

Guilds and Factions

A small bard college can be found in the north-east section of the city named Hogeldur. The college is not large enough to be really constituted as a college of one craft, and instead teaches the basics of a few different colleges including glamour, paint, and dance.

History

Snow Fair has been settled for quite some time, dating back to the end of the Void Era. It was a quaint, little, hamlet with a population under 300 people. However overtime, as people traveled from Reywick to Port Barrowdell, the need for another rest stop became more and more relevant. While these travelers would come in and out of the city, not only would they leave some gold for the lodging they paid for, they would also leave their stories and culture. Overtime the hamlet would expand outward to accommodate more people, and some of these travelers would even go on to call this town home. Snow Fair became a very diverse town of cultures and people, so when King Goldenchin declared most of these races illegal in Naldtocs, the people stood against this law, and continued to harbor non-dwarven races.

Architecture

The buildings of Snow Fair are generally made of stone and wood, with gable styled roofs. The interior of the city harbors most of the original architecture of the city, which is more wood based and square than the buildings to come. Those who choose to take up residency in Snow Fair may decorate the sides of their homes with sculptures paintings to show their creative tastes, or to show off their skill. Local taverns are known to have community murals, which allow travelers to leave a little bit of themselves long after they pass through.

Geography

Snow Fair is situated on a relatively flat plain of land that is blanketed with snow fall. The town is in a less dense area of forest, but patches of trees can still be found nearby. Throughout the year, inhabitants of Snow Fair will travel to the nearby mountains, harvesting any fresh water run off from the peaks.

Natural Resources

Snow Fair is not rich in raw materials, but they do excel in agriculture. Lettuce, carrots, and asparagus are a common crop that grows on the outskirts of the town. Flax is another commonly grown plant, which allows the people to extract it, and craft linen for their extravagant costumes.
