Corruption

Transmission & Vectors

Corruption cannot be transmitted, it is the result of one's own magic shattering the user's mind.

Causes

Corruption stems from the Eternal of Chaos, Mursat. A creature will fall under this effect if they have large amounts of arcane magic within them. The creature has an imbalance within in their mind, causing a sort of madness that creates this corruption. The magic seeps deeper into their brain, causing more intense and chaotic emotions, along with yellow eyes and black veins. This effect can also come to those who worship the Eternal of Chaos, Mursat

Symptoms

Symptoms include yellow eyes and black veins. Two forms of corruption have been documented. The first being an almost feral like state, of lashing out at anything in the area. The second seems to be a more contained version, allowing the creature to conceal the symptoms until it wishes to be shown. They have shown to be truly chaotic in their decisions, with a heightened mental capacity Creatures afflicted by corruption seem to gain an increase in strength as well as becoming more deleterious.

Treatment

Not much can be done to save someone lost to corruption. The counterbalance to the Eternal of Chaos would be the Eternal of Balance, Ides. However she was killed by Mursat long ago. Any artifacts or avatars she has may prove useful in reversing the effects.

Prognosis

The creature will lash out and attack anything around it, this includes others that are corrupted. Feral Corrupted creatures will most likely exhaust themselves out or die trying to find food. Controlled Corruption creatures can live their entire lives out without anyone ever realizing.

Prevention

A creature can prevent being corrupted by not worshiping Mursat, not succumbing to any dark motives, use their power for good, and to resolve any personal demons they may have. Whether it may be a death you regretted, an resolved relationship, or something else that eats away at your sub-conscious, under extreme conditions this may trigger the corruption.

History

Corruption was first sighted during the Void Era, where Mursat would ravage the lands, causing havoc, and spreading this magic. Corruption magic had a large role to play in the genocide of the elf population during this time. After Mursat was reduced in power after his fight with Eragrog, not much of the magic had been seen. There were still a few cases here and there, along with people in power who still held onto the corruption like Caitlin Incer of the Fire Plane. As more chaos was made throughout the planes, more and more accounts of this started to pop up.

Cultural Reception

Victims of corruption are seen as lost, unable to be reclaimed. The people of the realm do not know the cause of it, but they do make their assumptions here and there.
