Teleportation Pads

Teleportation pads are metal pads imbued with the teleportation circle spell. They are used within Magical Transport Centers to instantly allow people to travel instantaneously between locations.

Unlike traditional teleportation magic, which requires a caster to plot a destination, MTC Pads utilize a static link established via the Teleportation Circle spell. These links are permanent and uni-directional. The transit is not "activated" by the traveler; rather, the pad maintains a constant magical energy. Upon stepping onto the pad, the traveler is immediately transported to the corresponding arrival pad at the destination.

Manufacturing

Teleportation pads must be made out of a type of metal, preferably brass or silver. They are then inbued with the teleportation circle spell, which connects a "departure" pad with a corresponding "arrival" pad.

Social Impact

Teleportation pads greatly impacted personal travel between countries in Draconia. However, due to the limits of the teleportation spell, it did not have as revolutionary an impact on the transport of cargo. It allowed people to travel instantaneously between countries.

Laucian Xiloscient used teleportation pads (until he learned to teleport himself) during his tenure as a Professor at the University of Thoth, since he was also the High Emperor of Elvenkind and therefore had to live in Elysium.

Aetheric Vertigo and Sensory Side Effects

While the transition between pads is instantaneous, the physical toll on a sapient biological form is significant. Because the modified teleportation spell requires the traveler to provide the "conscious intent" for activation, the mind is fully aware during the infinitesimal moment of transit. Travelers frequently report a sensation of "spatial compression"—as if being squeezed through a narrow glass tube—followed by a sharp, metallic tang on the tongue and a ringing in the ears. These symptoms, collectively known as Aetheric Vertigo, can cause lingering nausea, balance issues, and a temporary "static" in the vision. While these effects usually dissipate within minutes, they are unpleasant enough that many civilians still opt for the slower, more comfortable transit provided by sea vessels or air-frigates.
