Teleportation Boxes
Teleportation boxes are specialized boxes that are under the effects of a permanent Teleport Objects spell. The purpose of these boxes is to allow institutions with locations spread across great distances to share resources. The best example of this is the Biblioverse, the grand library of the University of Thoth. Because the Biblioverse's collections are spread across Draconia at the five campuses of the University, as well as at some of the other temples of Thoth, there must be some way of connecting the network.
Teleportation boxes are either made out of polished wood or metal.
To create the network of teleportation boxes, a spellcaster enchants the boxes with the Teleport Object spell with the Permanency spell. When doing so, the caster inscribes the same rune inside each box. This ensures that all the boxes operate as network, allowing only teleportation of objects to and from boxes with the same rune.
To use a teleportation box, the user places the object inside the box, closes the door and speaks the location to which they want to send the object, which must have another teleportation box that is part of the same network. The object is then transported to the other box. Upon arrival, a magical chime sounds to notify the recipient.
Utility
This technology is used mainly by the network of libraries of the The Church of Thoth and its University. When a patron needs a book, scroll, or record that is housed at another location, a librarian fills out a request slip, places it into the teleportation box and sends the slip to the location where the item is held. A librarian at that location retrieves the slip from their teleportation box, goes to collect the item, and places it back in the teleportation box. They also fill out another portion of the request slip for tracking purposes and sends the book and the completed slip back to the requesting location. The librarian at the requesting location can then complete the checkout process for the patron.
