Virryk Icemane

Sage of Water (a.k.a. The Frost Sage)

The lycan sage of water, Virryk Icemane, resides in the frigid highlands of the Frozen Climbs. The Frost Sage lives a nomadic lifestyle with his most loyal adherents, as he says their ancestors did long ago. While Virryk can see the predatory merits of the raiding lifestyle of his coastal brethren, he advocates for a return to the simpler life of hunting in the wilds, following the movements of their prey across the tundra. He claims modern lycans are too focused on gold and glory and have lost the joy of hunting for sustenance and to prove one’s own merits as the absolute apex predator. Instead he wants all lycans to support one another, directly or not, for the betterment of the collective he calls The Pack.   Virryk is an impressive lycan to behold in spite of his unremarkable size and strength. His fur is a mix of light gray and snow white, perpetually coated in a light dusting of frost. However it is his glowing, icy blue eyes and ritualistically carved scars which command the beholder’s attention. The ancient form of the lycan language is almost never seen in its written, runic form. Some scholars suggest Virryk’s flesh and perhaps a few very old gravestones are the only places where it still survives. Preferring to hunt without weapons and foregoing all but the simplest articles of clothing, he is a vision of a past all but extinct in today’s world.   Virryk and Nixalia rarely come into direct conflict, the Frost Sage rarely having much to say about the white dragon lord. Virryk’s messages of pack community and simple living do not inherently contradict Nixalia’s preferred raiding lifestyle. His disregard for gold contrasts her draconic love of treasure, but it is his refusal to acknowledge her divinity that is a slight she cannot publicly allow to slide. She has a bounty for his head, but does not actively pursue his demise. Still this is Virryk’s biggest issue with the elder dragon: Lycans fighting and even killing one another over territory or mates is perfectly fine, but promoting the hunting of one another for sport is actively detrimental to The Pack.
